I'm pretty sure Massachusetts doesn't have the death penalty.
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.
Re: This Aaron Hernandez thing.
OK you made me wonder if I was imagining things so I looked it up - if the feds get involved he might be facing the death penalty. (I heard it on an ESPN radio news update overnight)

Re: This Aaron Hernandez thing.
Very interesting profile sketched by the RS. This is the most in-depth piece I've taken time to read on Hernandez; I am attracted by the train-wreck aspect, but not interested enough to follow the story. So all opinions I hold are half-baked and highly speculative (yeah, I know, just like all the other shit I spew.)
I had guessed that a key feature is the increased tolerance for criminality and thuggishness by the powers that be of college football and the league in recent years/decades. The limits of shit that would not have flown when I was younger, despite how great the talent, gradually becoming pushed further out. Of course, fueled by much more money than in the good 'ol days.
But, this article reveals some other ingredients to this particular downfall. Angel dust. The stark dual nature of this young man's character and behavior; the legit good kid past, nurtured by a protective father, shattered at a crucial age, the dark side reinforced by the emergent promise of future riches to attract the leeches.
I'm not apologizing or excusing. Just seeking understanding of the mixture of factors.
I recognize such journalism is typically (almost always?) fraught with factual errors, exaggerations, all kinds of inaccuracies. I take each detail with a grain of salt and two grains of skepticism. But the addition of angel dust to the mixture of this dude's head sure tempts me to nod and think, 'well that sure explains a lot'. Nasty, nasty drug. Capable of inducing a particular brand of crazy paranoia violence unlike any other class of drug, save maybe meth. Yeah, I know this is old news, but this drug is just different than the others. Even the ultra-libertarian side of me could be convinced, 'ok, we'll legalize all banned substances--except dust; that shit is a special evil!'
Mom, her boyfriend, the street life of any sized town in dying post-industrial America, the iatrogenic death of Dad, the UofF, the Patriots, the head coaches of those institutions, the thugs who were parasites on this young man, and of course Hernandez himself, first among . Plenty of responsibility for these murders to go around.

If it's a woman, it's entirely possible she doesn't know about the whole murder thing. I know it was all over the news, but I'll bet I know at least two or three women who own an NFL jersey who have no idea he was arrested. (Mileage on this front may vary in New England.)

And if I was writing the biopic/true crime drama, the fact that the Pats are at the white House today is a perfect framing device for this story.Ryan wrote:Pronounced dead at a hospital in fucking Leominster is the perfect end for this nobody.
