New show on HBO called Togetherness. I was kinda digging it. Then, they sold me:

Re: Temporary Television
That tour (Snake & Arrows?) they actually had that as the entertainment before the encore...of course Tom Sawyer.
I think the only time I didn't hear it as the encore was the Power Windows tour. Really need to break out OLD shit. Especially as this tour is supposed to be the last extensive one.

Nick Kroll does two shows too. Between this and The League, it's like one full season of a network show.Jerloma wrote:Is The League over is that guy just doing two shows at once?howard wrote:New show on HBO called Togetherness. I was kinda digging it. Then, they sold me:

You guys apparently have no idea who Mark Duplass really is. First of all, him and his brother basically invented a particular type of American cinema, popularly called mumblecore (which term he hates) but which shares in common some ofter aspects of popular cinema movements like Dogme 95. He's been in no less than about a dozen other popular indie movies directed by other directors and countless other TV shows as well.
Saying he's doing this as a side project from The League is like saying Martin Scorsese is the guy who directed Mean Streets and some other movies too.
Rant over. Sorry.

I really liked Cyrus. And Mark is married to Kate Aselton, I'm a fan of that. But, embarrassingly, I never got around to watching The Puffy Chair.

I never really watched Parenthood (the tv series) but Jen did, so I was roughly aware of the characters and story arcs. Watched the series finale last night - def got dusty - and I wasn't all that invested in it.
Re: Temporary Television
The question was about filming two shows at the same time. It'd be like saying Martin Scorsese is the guy who directed Mean Streets and Alice Doesn't Live Her Anymore at the same time, if he had.brian wrote:

Re: Temporary Television
He also guests on the Mindy Project too, so that's technically three shows, but to answer the question I think this new HBO show shot after The League was finished. They all shoot in LA though so it's not entirely impossible.Giff wrote:The question was about filming two shows at the same time. TB, you've recommended Six Feet Under a few times. I tried watching a few episodes, but if I remember, it premiered not too long after 9/11, and I just couldn't get into something so depressing. Was it that good?

Re: Temporary Television
Yes, it was that good. Definitely started a year or two before 9/11. It is dark and depressing, but some of the greatest character development of any show I've seen. I do wonder if it holds up in the sense that it was one of the first cable dramas, so the superior quality and lack of network censorship was a revelation.L-Jam3 wrote:TB, you've recommended Six Feet Under a few times. Now I am really curious about Parenthood. We watched the first and maybe the second season. I really liked the show a lot, and have no idea why we stopped watching it. Writing and acting were great. Sort of a watered down, more realistic family, and not nearly as dark as 6 Feet, but similar realtime feel to the story arcs.

I actually didn't watch all of that series, either. Found it way too damn depressing. I tried doing "The Americans" during their first season, and just couldn't get into it. Mainly because the lead guy just seemed totally mis-cast to me.Ryan wrote:I haven't seen it yet, but apparently Kornheiser was in The Americans last night?

This last season of parks and rec is fantastic. Hipster Ben/Leslie, "the name was Les, Les Vegetables", most of the 2017 news, "Where do you have to go? Putting up a new scarecrow?",
every supporting character getting a callback (Judge Perd !), Vitalogy ... just choosing what to quote is a chore.
Fuck , I m gonna miss this show so badly but at least it s going out strong. Only minor complain, I have no recollection whatsoever of Lucy’s past appearances.
And please, please, give us one last Jean Ralphio fix !

Apparently I'm one of 2 to vote for the actor over the anchor. Parks & Rec has been beyond great so far. I'm still giggling about the "Les, Les Vegetables" joke - Offerman has the best sly smile in acting today. The Sybian wrote:BSF21 wrote:

No comments on Better Call Saul. I thought the first episode was wonderful. Opened and closed with a callback (call forward?) to the Breaking Bad universe. Replay of episode 1 tonight at 9; premier of episode 2 at 10.
