I'm home sick, so I just watched "Fury"...the Brad Pitt drives a tank in WWII movie. Wasn't too bad. A bit cheesy. But well made.

High....to extremely high. And Pitt breaks out the "Aldo Raine" (from Inglourious basterds) accent.

The end borrows generously from Saving Private Ryan.

Holy fuck, that is actually real! I recently saw pictures from an old magazine of a young Melanie Griffith playing with either lions or tigers in her backyard. Fucked up. Anyone who has ever owned a cat knows they can turn on you in a heartbeat.

A year ago or so, I unintentionally caused an uproar when I diparaged Michael Keaton's skills as a comic actor.

And while my original opinion holds firm, I am shocked that he didn't get the Oscar for his performance in Birdman. That was a fantastic movie and both Keaton and Edward Norton were incredible. As I'll never see the Stephen Hawking movie, this will remain a mystery, but he was just great.

I saw that Amy Schumer is really going out of her comfort zone with that movie.

She is doing female comics everywhere a disservice. Meh.

Finally watch "Boyhood" last night. Really liked it. I thought both Arquette and Hawke were great. And it had to break the all time "Rocking the Khaki/Tucked in Polo shirt" record.

I've heard the weakness of the movie is that the boy turned out to be not that great of an actor...but I thought he was ok. It was the gal playing his sister who I thought was pretty awful.

The actress who played the daughter/sister is Richard Linklater's daughter.

fwiw, I would have given the Best Picture award to Boyhood instead of Birdman. But, showbiz loves movies about showbiz.

For whatever reason, Hawke's transformation got to me almost as much as the kid's. I think it was a combination of it not being as gradual (he disappeared at some point for what must have been over 5 years of movie time*), and I guess me still picturing him, in general in my head, the way he looked at the beginning of the movie. The little bit of grey, the little bit of weight, the stache. Whoa.

*OK, I looked it up and it was no more than 3 years? Ethan hit a wall.

GOTG Porno drops tomorrow!
Gnardians of the Galaxy will be released on April 3, on WoodRocket.com, for free. And later that month, an extended version will be released on DVD. And here's the cast, via WoodRocket: "The movie stars Aaron Wilcoxxx as Star Load, Daisy Ducati as Gamwhora, April O'Neil as Rocket Raccooch, Shane Diesel as Crax, AJ as Groin, Tabitha Stevens as Kokrath, and Vuko as Bonin."

And yes, that is porn star April O'Neil dressed as Rocket Raccoon. Because your day could always get more surreal.

Whiplash is worth a watch, but is far short of being amazing.

But, kudos to the director and the actors, because it really could have been crap. JK Simmons was absolutely great.

See....I watched it last night, and I thought it was great. Lots of plot holes though...like why the hell doesn't the whole band take a bus together to that last competition? They all have to get themselves there? That makes no sense....

J.K. Simmons was fantastic though. As was Miles Teller....

Yeah, that's kind of what I meant when I said it could have been crap. There was a lot about it that didn't make sense - especially the hole that you pointed out.

But the two leads were great and it is worth a watch.

Except.

When George Miller does it.

Best thing about that trailer is seeing that the movie will be out just a month and a half from now. Refreshing change from the trend of starting the hype train too early and then anticipation fatigue setting in (i.e. the new Star Wars).

Good thing you missed this...

Speaking of Star Wars, the next trailer (or first trailer if the thing from Thanksgiving was officially a "teaser") should be released with Avengers 2 in a month. I expect we'll see the big three this time. After seeing Mark Hamill last night on The Flash, I'm interested in how a not particularly fit looking 63 year old Jedi Master plays...

Alec Guinness barely moved in his fight in Ep. IV. I'm assuming Jedi abilities and fight choreography will be closer in style to the most recent trilogy than the original.

AB, let me thank you. You mentioned Alec Guiness, and it reminded me that I got The Bridge on tha Muthaphukkin River Kwai a few years ago and never watched it. Probably haven't seen it since the 90s. You made my weekend movie choice for me.

Went and saw Danny Collins last night since it was (almost literally) the only non Fast/Furious option playing at the multiplex. It was pretty clever, if not predictable. I'd recommend checking it out on Netflix for sure. One of Pacino's best performances in a decade probably.

That was the best of the trailers - and all of the others have been great.

I watched About Alex on HBO the other night. Very good story about a group of college friends getting back together after one of them attempts suicide. And having Aubrey Plaza in it just adds to the fun (probably a poor choice of words there).
