If you said Scottie has a different personality in person, I can buy what you fellas who met him are saying. For me, though, he always appeared to be a pseudointellectual bully, who used 300 words to say something that could have been done with 40. The first and last things I could deal with, but I have a real problem with people who bully others.

If given the choice, I'd always take "not suicide" over "suicide" for someone unless they were truly monsters, like Tottenham supporters. But like I said, he's the boy who cried wolf. I have legitimate doubts how serious he was if he Tweeted it. It's obvious he has mental issues (it certainly takes one to know one), and I don't wish him ill, but I don't think my doubt in his sincerity is misplaced.

Agree with the second part, but as for the first? I boo you most loudly.

Years ago, I was a regular in an England-based chat group that brought together reggae fans from around the world to talk music, politics, sport and whatever else. The moderator of the board threatened to harm himself at least three times in a two year span, and at one point - after his girlfriend dumped him - he said a dramatic farewell to all of us in terms not dissimilar to what we saw on twitter the other day. Guys were so freaked out they got in touch with the police in his town and they went to check on the guy. Who, as it turned out, was merely blind drunk. This situation reminded me of that one.

I would never make fun of people's health issues, whether they are physical, emotional or mental. And not knowing Scottie except for a number of exchanges hereabouts, I have no idea whether he was serious or was merely trying to get a reaction from people. But there's no reason for us to insult each other based on our different reactions to the situation. Nothing any of us could do would have made a difference anyway.

My knowledge of serious depression is thankfully very limited, so I have nothing to add to that part of the discussion. But the fact that this thread was in danger of degenerating into comment section level vitriol disturbed me greatly, so I stayed far away.

I started on Lexapro about two years ago after about 3.5 years of Zoloft doing nothing for me (and about 4 months of incorrectly diagnosed Adderrall, which did nothing except make me shit myself). I've kept that fickle visitor away since then whenever my script was current, but that asshole came back a couple days ago and I'm having trouble keeping it together. It's taking all my mental willpower to pack up my shit at work and just go home and lock myself in my room.

The shitty part of mental illness is that it feels like your own mind is actively working against you. I remember it hitting bad at my last law job, and when I would try to explain that to loved ones, some would give me the line that I'm not working hard enough.

(And if none of you follow up with a line like "but Amaro's gone, and Sanchez won't be starting until at least October", then I'll be really disappointed in you guys).
