Dansby Swanson could only be more Vanderbilty of a name if it were Dansby Swanson IV

That was probably the least-watched no-hitter by a Giants' pitcher in a long time. All their fans were watching the Warriors' game.

I don't remember if I posted this here at some point and got drunk and forgot, but I'd probably be more disappointed to learn Stanton is juicing than Miguel Cabrera.

Boy oh boy. Wonder if some of the BFIB (tm) can give Rush a run for his money defending the franchise.

Shut the fuck up, it's just statistical data. And even if it did anything, they had been winning World Series titles way before this. Just jealousy towards baseball's best franchise.

Agreed! Got to meet Jake Marisnick, George Springer, and Evan Gattis yesterday with my wife and oldest. She high-fived Marisnick, said "Springer Dinger" to George (he hit two last night) and Gattis called her a "cutie-patootie".

The hacked e-mail thing is a crazy story. Will be interesting to see what the outcome is and what punishment is doled out, if necessary.

If they really do track it to the organization, punishment could be as severe as a postseason ban. I mean this is really, really, really bad.

I predict they blame it on a couple disgruntled employees and absolve the organization as a whole.

27th batter Jose Tabata, 2-2 count, hit by pitch. Leaned into it. Retired the next and last hitter F7.

Nationals' TV color guy said on the replay that it was the worst way to lose the perfect game. I immediately told him, "Armando Galarraga".

Also, is Lincecum seriously wearing a do rag?

Openly wondering what kind of a prospect haul the Tigers could get for David Price and Cespedes at this point or if it's just worth getting the extra first rounders next year.

Cespedes is worth a half year of Jon Lester divided by 3. So probably not much. Price though you may get...well, at least another Cespedes.

Hasn't the compensation for having a free agent sign elsewhere gone down, as compared to years past?

No, it's still a first-rounder if they're a Type 1 free agent (not sure if they use that same terminology). Price would be a slam-dunk first rounder obvs. Cespedes would be a fringe case.

Its a comp rounder now versus getting the other team's place in the first plus a comp.

Oh right, that's what he was saying. In any event, it's better than the NFL. The Lions get a third-rounder for losing Suh which is basically a fourth-rounder.

At least they don't take a first away if the player hasn't played a full season. Theoretically makes it easier to deal a player for the last couple of months even if the team/Tigers don't have much leverage. When it's all said and done I assume he's not going anywhere since this is the last year of contention for the Tigers for the rest of the decade at least, but it would be nice to get some prospects to have something to look forward to in the next 5 years.

Sum of the WAR for Bryce Harper (5.4) and Max Scherzer (4.3) = 9.7

Sum of the WAR for everyone who played for the Philadelphia Phillies this year = 4.1

Phillies hitting combined is a -0.2. I'm not certain if Sherzer's total includes his 0.3 WAR as a hitter.

From Jonah Keri yesterday:
(Chris Sale) has struck out at least one batter in 35 straight innings. That’s the highest total since Johan Santana did it for 39 straight innings with the Twins in 2002.
That gets more impressive the more I think of it, particularly for Santana 13 years ago.

Quick quiz - what position player has the most brWAR this season among anyone acquired by their current team as a major league free agent? He's 25th on the overall list.

Quick fact - Don't sign free agents.
