Agree with the Seven Says in Hell love; it was outstanding.

I have watched the first 3 Another Period on Comedy Central and it is a hilarious send up of reality shows. Plus I have had a huge crush on Riki since I first saw Garfunkel & Oates, so the show has that going for it too.

I didn't check the cast first. I only knew Samberg and Jon Snow was in it. Pond was an awesome surprise. Loved it.

That was fucking great. Some serious hard laughs. Samburg being Samburg in a fantastic character, great cast, and some really surprising gags. I didn't even realize the Duke was Howie Mandel. I have to say, the ending was horrible. So stupid. A couple of plot points felt like they completely ran out of ideas and threw in some crap. Still loved it, though. English talk show host and Taiwanese animation reenactments were instant classics.

Not to beat a dead horse (ha!), but BoJack Horseman is one of the best shows on TV. (Onion TV Club agrees.)
Not since the early seasons of Arrested Development or the best years of 30 Rock has a series committed to the joke-a-second model like BoJack Horseman does.

Anyone watch The Knick? A medical drama set in the year 1900 in New York City. On Cinemax on demand, ten episode first season.

I don't like medical shows. Even the good ones, like ER, I just don't watch because I am unable to suspend disbelief, or suspend my need to evaluate the authenticity of the details in order to enjoy the show.

Not this one, I really dig it. Clive Owen is really good, rest of the acting pretty good, excellent historic detail. Highly recommend.

I love me some Clive Owen, so hopefully all the episodes are my OnDemand too. Thanks for the heads up as I haven't even heard of it, which is very strange for me.

"The Knick" is directed by Steven Soderbergh, so that is probably you answer as to why it is quality.

It's just an awful premise for a show. He isn't bad, it's the show. I think he is one of the most talented guys out there right now, but having his name attached to this is not helping him.

Not being obnoxious here - but Producers, writers and directors make a big difference. He clearly has first level representation, and Comedy Central knows how to make good shows - clearly something is very wrong, something that you'd figure they should have spotted early on in the creative process. Did he not have the authority to bring in his own creative guys? Did the network not know the best way to showcase him?

When the host of a show seems so uncomfortable, it is a very bad sign.

I don't really know that any network really knows how to make good shows, especially considering the top executives often come from a business/accounting/legal background.

While certain networks do better than others (HBO and FX, for starters), a lot of their success can be traced to "green-light the show and get out of the way" and a general willingness to take risks other networks would not. AMC, for example, has had "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad", but nearly lost the latter because of how they managed the former, not to mention has had many other original shows that are not good.

To quote William Goldman, "No one knows anything."

Bojack Horseman is great. Really well done, wonderful detail thrown in, even the opening credits and music is really well done (one of the Black Keys guys did the theme.) Suck a dick, dumbshits!

Finally going back and watching Eastbound and Down. Saw the first season when it originally aired, I loved it, but it fell off the radar. What a great fucking character, and so well played. Amazing to find yourself rooting for a complete and utter piece of shit. His total lack of self awareness reminds me a bit of Michael Scott, with a more badass hairdo.

Watched A Deadly Adoption last night - the Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig Lifetime movie...

Very strange, as it was neither overtly parodic enough to be funny (and it stopped being amusing about twenty minutes in), or well produced enough to even work as a "legit" Lifetime-style movie.

Either a joke that was too "in" to be funny to the audience, a film too poorly shot to be an homage to the family in distress movie, or some sort of experiment in doing a shot for shot simulation of a typical tv movie. Which begs the question - what's the point.

By the time the clearly ridiculous elements cropped up - the bad news boyfriend of the villain breakfasting on cigarettes and beer - none of it mattered. A very strange movie indeed.

I keep giving Will Ferrell second chances, but other than the kind of funny Mexican-style movie he made a few years ago, he just churns out one bad film after another.

Yes. His character fucking sucks and gums up the show. Way too over the top. I'm finding the show amusing, and since each season is only 8 episodes, I feel like I am making progress in knocking one of many shows off of my list.

Meant to post this in the Gold Cup thread, but the Jamaican coach looks a lot like Ferrell's character.

And I think I'm enjoying True Detective, too.

About to finish up Orange is the New Black. It's been pretty funny and I recommend it. Now I need suggestions for another show.

Daredevil? The Knick? Bojack Horseman? Broad city? True Detective? Any others I'm missing? I see good things about Banshee and The Americans too. There's a crapton of worthwhile shows on. I'm having trouble deciding.
