MLB August 2015
Because. It's August.
Re: MLB August 2015
I can only assume that as part of the bribery to move the Astros to the AL, they were told that they'd be able to play all games at home during their first playoff experience in this league.

What I've seen of Boyd so far on film and today vs KC makes me think if he can find the handle on his curve (a big if of course) that's a ++ MLB pitch.

People discussing August baseball in the July thread is an abomination.

Dave Dombrowski details:
The longtime president and general manager got fired over the phone in his own clubhouse, leaving his teenage son in tears, consoled by players, while his replacement — a trusted confidant for more than a decade — heard that same news 72 hours earlier.

I was thinking and I decided that I think Dombrowski probably convinced Illitch not to pay Max Scherzer.

Re: MLB August 2015
I can see that. Scherzer's delivery is far from ideal, so Dombrowski could easily have played the "not a good investment" card after Scherzer declined 6/$144 before last season started. Of course, that offer kinda offsets the "not a good investment" angle, unless Dombrowski just figured that, following the season, Scherzer was closer to an eventual injury and committing even more cash to him was a significantly worse idea at that time.Gunpowder wrote:I was thinking and I decided that I think Dombrowski probably convinced Illitch not to pay Max Scherzer.

He could still be right, but Illitch is 103 and all.

Re: MLB August 2015
I think the answer will come this offseason if the Tigers make a bunch of big money FA signings. Then you'll know who's really pulling the strings. (Assuming Ilitch doesn't die before then.)

Christmas came to Cleveland a few months early this year. The Indians traded Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn (and $10 million) to the Braves for Chris Johnson.

Why do the Yankees seemingly always play day games on Saturdays when at home?

Yeah of course. But is there a reason or some kind of tradition?rass wrote:Because they want to?brian wrote:Why do the Yankees seemingly always play day games on Saturdays when at home?

Re: MLB August 2015
I think it is the inverse of the Dodgers usually playing night games on Saturdays. Less competition for recreational/entertainment activities in nighttime New York/daytime Los Angeles.

The original reason was to keep Jeter's Saturday nights free for dating purposes. Don't know now.

Of course. This 'credible' threat was after the game was over. You're going to have to either be quicker on the draw, or more credible. Saying "It will be like '69, '77, and '84" require too much processing power on the other end of the line.

My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

The reports I read did not say, but even non-hodgkins stage 1 he's got good odds. There are a couple of good doctors/hospitals in Boston for that kind of thing.

BlueJays are the first team to shut out the Yankees for 31 consecutive innings since the Tigers in 1934.
