PGA Championship 2015

Post by travzilla »

Whistling Straits

Leaderboard

Looks like a lot of birdies in the first few holes.

I'll take Adam Scott, edging out Sergio and Schwartzel.

Dustin Johnson tied for the lead. Wonder how he can blow this one?
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

One of the club pros shot 90. Pretty good variation in scores for one day. And Daly made a 10 on a par-3. When I play I have a strict no double-digits on the scorecard rule, that's a 9 for me.

He also threw his club into the lake. He hit three in the water.

Some kid retrieved it.

Missed Daly tossing his club in the drink, and the kid raising it over his head. I was there today, sans kids, so there were no golf rules broken. It was hot as fuck out there. Saw two different people being carried off by their friends. Unless they are serious drunks, it was way too early to be alcohol related.

Back to Daly, we did see him on 8, which (I think) was one hole after the club toss. Saw him wait to take his second, puffing away on a heater. Dustin Johnson damn near hit an ace right in front of us on 7. Aaron Rodgers walked a bit of the course with the Spieth/McIlroy/ZJohnson group. Spieth got a lot of cheers, Rodgers got more.

Taking tomorrow off before going back on Sunday.

We've got WWLIS on, and it's gone from tennis in Montreal to AFL in San Jose. Little dude has asked me during each sport if you get to keep the ball if it goes in the stands.

When I was at the 1996 US Open the premier group was the classic US Open pairing of the previous champion, the defending Open Championship winner and the defending US Amateur champion. In 1996 that was Corey Pavin (US Open), John Daly (Open Championship) and Tiger Woods (US Amateur champ). Couldn't even hardly get close to those guys.

Tiger was right behind D. Johnson, Day, and Fowler yesterday. Many people stayed to watch Tiger's group, then took off after they passed through.

This Finau guy is awfully efficient for someone who is Jabari Parker's cousin.

But, really. Isn't an ant, by definition, a burrowing animal?

Kind of an anti-climactic Sunday.

I would have been fine with Spieth, Day or Rose winning. So, not much to see there for me.

Is this going to be the problem going forward? Many great players but no villain? In the big 4 era everyone loved Tiger and wanted him to win over the other 3, especially Vijay.

But out of 7? guys, Spieth, Day, McIlroy, Fowler, Bubba, Dustin and Rose is there really a villain?

I became a huge Day fan after the way he toughed out the US Open despite severe vertigo. I'm very happy he got his first major. I like all the rest too, I didn't like rooting against Spieth.

Yeah, fuck Bubba.

People at Whistling Straits were fucking gaga for Spieth. It certainly had to be less than Tiger in his heyday, but people were overwhelmingly pulling for the young Texan.

McIlroy needs a Ryder Cup incident for Americans to hate him. Could say the same for Day if anyone ever gave a crap about the Presidents Cup.

Bubba might not even be in that group, he's already 36.
