The 2015 US Open of Tennis

Post by travzilla »

Now underway.

Nishikori (4) just got upset in the first round. I like watching him play, so that sucks. I think i'm rooting hardest to see a Federer win.

Dgen/Pruitt - over/under on number of games Eugenie wins has to be like 4.5 right? Even in the context of today's women's tour, Her rise and fall in the last 18 months is almost unfathomable. I feel like with all the coaching changes and stuff, there has to be some off court/personal issues that people just aren't reporting.

She's gone off the rails. Guess who she's playing mixed doubles with?

Eugenie Bouchard (CAN)
Nick Kyrgios (AUS)
vs
Elina Svitolina (UKR)
Artem Sitak (NZL)

Ha! Certainly not hurting my theory that she's way to full of herself, boozin' like crazy and probably a huge bitch.

I wonder if Milos is at full strength if he can get back to the quarters. I think that would be a great tournament for him, would have to beat Nadal to get there though.

I'm calling an early upset, Nadal to lose in the 1st round to the teenage phenom Borna Coric tonight.

I am intrigued to see how far Hingis and Leander Pais go in the mixed doubles. They have played together for the Washington Kastles for 2 or 3 years and seem to play well together. Paes is a really good doubles player.

There's a guy who just WD'd named Jack Sock.

That is unfortunate.

I always thought that coaching during a match was outlawed. But Andy Murray last night was having a running conversation with the people in his box.

And wow...is he a whiny bitch...

I've always liked and respected Murray but I'll side with you on this one. He did come off like a whiny bitch during that match.

It never ceases to amaze me when people bitch about balls hitting the line. The line is in. The line has always been in. Play the ball.

Players are now spoiled by the challenge system. In the old days they played every ball that was close until they heard an out call and linesman only made out calls when it was pretty clearly out. So far out the umpire could see it as well.

Now players are challenging everything hoping the technology showed that it clipped the line to get a free point. Players often burn through their 3 challenges per set easily. And then when the ball clips the line they give the linesman a dirty look, yeah like a human could see a serve hit at 140mph that clipped the line by a millemetre.

So, do you lay down for your sister to win the Grand Slam, or do you go balls out to spoil it for her?

I really think its a non-story. Slam or no slam, Serena takes it with relative ease.

Who the fuck knows. I've always been suspicious when those two play each other. I don't know how either one of them could live with themselves if that were the case though.

She's human. I don't see how she wouldn't feel awful for Serena if she beat her. That has to be a factor. There is no way Venus beats Serena. None.

Where's Brian?

I need to know how they handicap tennis matches, because I'm on board that you could make a small fortune betting on Serena tonight.

Serena is a -950 favorite to win the match. So you'd have to bet $95 to win $10.

I agree there's probably no way Venus wins, but I don't have any intention of laying that much odds. Crazy shit like injuries can happen.

The sisters used to hate playing each other but now they are used to it. Their last 4 or 5 matches have been really good.

Its amazing how that stadium gets 20000 people out and another 20000 people in in 30 minutes without chaos happening.

Between this, pennant race baseball and US/Brazil friendly, not a bad little sports night for a Tuesday

Had a $3 live bet on Vinci just before it went to 2-2 in the third, queued up that would've paid $75. Fuckers changed the odds, and now it only pays $27.
