In addition to waiving Bickell, the Hawks just sent Dano down to the minors.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Bickell made $4 mill? Gawd, I thought that was a misprint. Desjardins just re-upped for less than one million, and he is better than Bickell.

So, with Dano going down, does that put Shaw on the top line? Wow.

Dano will come back up when Bicks goes down or is claimed, I'm fairly confident.

I know they're wildly successful, but does any team make the wrong decision more than Chicago without getting punished? Just over and over and over.

Agreed. Diaz was a great fill-in guy when the Flames had injury trouble last year.

And, in other news, it appears that hockey GMs are finally starting to figure it out on noted dickhead, Zack Kassian.
Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin didn’t mince words when talking about forward Zack Kassian, and the car accident that will sideline him for an undetermined amount of time.

Meeting with the media on Monday, Bergevin revealed that Kassian broke his nose and left foot in a Sunday morning accident.

"I'm a firm believer in character, and that's a lack of character on his part," Bergevin said. "I do not have all the information, but it is disappointing to say the least.”

According to the Montreal Gazette, Kassian was a passenger in a truck that crashed into a tree around 6 a.m. ET on Sunday. Kassian, who was in the vehicle with two other passengers, was found "bloodied and dazed."

Bergevin, who has yet to speak to Kassian, said that he was aware of the forward's reputation for late nights and that he’s been spoken to in the past by GMs on his previous teams.

"Perfection is not a part of this world but if mistakes keep happening then maybe there's a pattern here,” Bergevin said.

Torres gets fucking nailed. 41 games. Great move, now lets hope this carries over to all offenders, not just the ones who have proven they can't stop trying to kill people.

Much discussion back and forth today about where the line is of just not allowing him to play anymore. This is the...6th?....time. Should have been gone for the year. Hunting guys in the preseason is a such a low point.

They have to battle on his behalf. Suspensions are one thing but a ban is taking away his job. Thats why the union exists

I wish they'd eliminate the fine portion of these suspensions so the PA would (atleast theoretically) have incentive to protect their victims versus the overall paychecks.

To expound on Mr. D's point, the union is supposed to protect its membership in the macro sense as well and allowing this asshole to continue to have a job puts all of them at potential risk. Seems like that should supersede one person.

ƒ Re: the thread title. One of my hopes this year was that the hockey threads wouldn't be littered with talk about players like Raffi Torres. And yet here we are. (The angriest I've ever been while watching a hockey game was when he hit Marian Hossa a few years ago.) Again, the game is better than it was, but this still happens way too often.

ƒ My dislike for Zach Kassian is also well-documented, but I don't think I've ever seen a player get suspended after being injured in a car accident in which he was a passenger. If he really does have a drinking problem, which is the implication here, then I hope that he can get better.

ƒ Pascal Dupuis of the Penguins is going to miss about a month. This is sad, but it's rumored to be 'a hockey injury' and not related to his blood clot. I love Dupuis, and he's been snakebitten the past few years.

ƒ Young guys update: Arizona returned Dylan Strome to Erie after a strong camp/preseason. Daniel Sprong, whom the Pens selected in the second round this year, will at least be starting the season in Pittsburgh. Edmonton sent Leon Draisatl to the AHL.

ƒ I can't wait until January or whenever Jagr's mullet is revealed. That man is a treasure.

Yeah not a great day for the NHL yesterday. Two days before the season starts and the 3 lead stories are:

-Kassian goes to rehab (and the subtext of the Bergevin press confrence was not "he needs help" but "he's a douchebag and I don't want him around".
-Violent predator* to return to hockey in January.
-NHL statement: Yeah a lot of our players do cocaine, no big deal.

*not to be confused with violent Predator, that would be Mike Ribeiro.

I thought that he might play a few games before being sent back. Would have been nice to see him play against the Penguins on Saturday. Oh, well.

Everything that I've read from Coyotes management has been glowing, tho. They are really, really high on him.

Did I read somewhere that the NHL got into some antitrust trouble with its GameCenter pricing?

Anyway, the pricing is much better this year than in years past. A single-team package is just over $100.

Pascal Dupuis cannot catch a break, can he? I'm in a 20-team fantasy league with 22 players per team. I took flyers with my last picks on some low-expectation, high-potential guys and Dupuis was one of them. (Dylan Larkin of Detroit and Noah Hanifan of Carolina are the others.)
