I know I'm easily confused, but... I don't understand what's happening in that scenario... They give you two bagel sandwiches? Why?
You can lead a horse to fish, but you can't fish out a horse.
Re: Fast Food Thread: Not just about assholes anymore
This is where I found out that it's a thing, but I still have no idea why. It seems like they think you can't put a full sandwich's worth of fillings on a bagel (or croissant?) so they spread it out over two. Just nod politely.

Well, I'm not a big fan of bagel sandwiches, and the reason comes up in that thread... It's a fucking mess when they heap on the... filling stuff, whatever it might be.
If I want a sandwich, I want it on bread that I'm not having to gnaw on AND the toppings/fillings aren't squirting out everywhere.
I have the same issue with burger places like Red Robin... If I can't reasonably... Wait, nope, not gonna type that.

Panera's bagels are so bread-y that this might just work.Nonlinear FC wrote: Tue Apr 09, 2024 11:59 am Well, I'm not a big fan of bagel sandwiches, and the reason comes up in that thread... It's a fucking mess when they heap on the... filling stuff, whatever it might be.

The asiago for sure. Or just deconstruct it. Point is, 2 pretty good ham and swiss sandwiches for like $5.50 a pop

I'm going to Colorado Springs tomorrow to see my parents, and I just spent 20 minutes looking on Yelp to see of there's some place with good stuffed sopapillas in town.Giff wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2024 3:04 pm Stuffed sopapillas are god's gift to us mere humans. Re: Fast Food Thread: Not just about assholes anymore
They opened today and I went. Waited about 30 minutes because, predictably, it was busy.
I got boneless wings, bulgogi tacos, and fries. I was not impressed. I'll chalk it up to them being busy and me not getting the bone in wings. Various trays came out looking outstanding. But my boneless wings were replacement level. 'Mid' as the kids say.

Re: Fast Food Thread: Not just about assholes anymore
I was in Center City Philadelphia last week for a work conference and sometime after midnight on Tuesday I was very drunk and decided I was also really hungry and wandered off into Chinatown and the only place I found that was still open AND serving food was a Bonchon so I ordered a half and half chicken strips and it took about twice as long as they estimated it would so I got a beer while I was waiting which I almost immediately regretted but drank half of anyway and still had no regrets eating the chicken on the way back to the hotel.Johnnie wrote: Wed May 29, 2024 8:37 pmThey opened today and I went. Philadelphia has shockingly few late night grab-and-go food options.
Re: Fast Food Thread: Not just about assholes anymore
We were in the same location last year and there were a bunch of halal-y trucks around that were perfect for stumbling back to the hotel from a bar. All gone this year.mister d wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 9:05 am Philadelphia has shockingly few late night grab-and-go food options.

There are Wawas and shit that have closed too because of increased crime or "increased crime". There's a huge deal with their DA not doing everything possible to fill the jails and it seems like a lot of the corporations have either bought in or are complicit.rass wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 9:09 amWe were in the same location last year and there were a bunch of halal-y trucks around that were perfect for stumbling back to the hotel from a bar. I've never had a stuffed sopapilla. I'm sure they are delicious, but I've always just had them as a side with the entree.
The ones at Rancho De Chimayo are fantastic...

Just found out my current favorite fast food burger place, P. Terry's, is opening their first location outside the Austin/San Antonio area just down the street from me. Super pumped.

If you were on the other side of 40 I'd tell you to go to Pericos on Isleta. As stated previously, I'm a sopapilla purest, but they have fantastic other food, and great sopas...so 2+2. Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Re: Fast Food Thread: Not just about assholes anymore
I'll be down there in October. Hopefully will have a chance to check those out.

Slinging some paintings at a little balloon festival

That’s a great balloon festival!

Assuming you don’t have paintings of balloons, could you do a shitty one of a balloon and just see if it sells because of the venue?

I’m already picturing a red white and green italian balloon that’s just awash in pubic hair. Gold chain as the string.

A few observations ...
-These rankings are clickbait, and if they were accurate, McDonald's would clarly be #1.
-Never heard of Captain D's. Did he murder Long John Silver and take his franchise? I'm intrigued.
-In N Out is overrated to me. The burger's solid, but the fries suck. Give me Shake Shack and Five Guys any day.
-Chick-Fil-A is super overrated. HOWEVER, I recently discovered their un-breaded chicken nuggets (made out of real chicken), which are extremely delicious and not absolutely terrible for your gut.
Also, fast food related non sequitur (and maybe I posted this here, can't remember), but the last time I ordered a Big Mac meal was in a McDonald's at a mega rest stop in Connecticut, and it was almost $20.
Also, I met Steve Carell in a line at Sbarro's there (really).

Captain D's: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_D%27s
First time I ever saw them was at the BX at Barksdale. Shreveport also had a stand alone Captain D's off base. The food is mediocre, but we'd always have the new Airmen call "Captain Deese" to get their medical inprocessing started. It was always good for a laugh.

How excited should I be for a new Dave’s Hot Chicken opening up 2 miles from our house?
Re: Fast Food Thread: Not just about assholes anymore
That depends on how much you value your health. I loved it when I went to one visiting family in the Bay Area a year or two ago. Very strong chicken sandwich.cerranoredux wrote: Sun Aug 18, 2024 8:41 pm How excited should I be for a new Dave’s Hot Chicken opening up 2 miles from our house?
I liked it more than Popeye's (which is the clubhouse leader for me).
