Pens are back to being garbage.
Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
My favorite game is to watch a series and try to figure out what the teams' seeds are.
Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
What do you call one of those graphs that's just repeating humps? That's me with Crosby. I appreciate how great he is during the season and then every playoff series or key game I remember what a self-dick-sucker he is with the constant sneaky dirty play and bailing on every confrontation. "Sorry, can't engage here, gotta go suck my own dick on the bench" he probably says.
Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
Don't remind me. He is on the team I root for, well team I Should be rooting for. But Mario as owner ruined it for me a bit. First threatening to leave if they didn't get a arena and then crying when the Islanders goober it up a week after Bret Johnson broke their goals face.mister d wrote:What do you call one of those graphs that's just repeating humps? Surpassed expectations, young team, next year, next year, next year...
Ugh. so frustrated though. No one has ever won the first two games of a series when trailing after the 2nd period each time. Ducks have done it three times in a row.
Whatever happens, Wednesday will still be a million times better than the last Jets playoff game i went to.

Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
Jeez man. If you're going to get on the Pens for that, at least go with Cooke. Fucking DiPietro (shit, he's still only 33!) skated down to Johnson, challenged him, and got beat. That in no way justified calling up a couple of career AHL goons and sending them out on a headhunt. "Goober"??? Tangredi was assaulted.psunate77 wrote:But Mario as owner ruined it for me a bit. I don't get the "white out" when the team isn't wearing white. They should've had a blue out.degenerasian wrote:Winnipeg looks great!

This makes me think you don't watch much MSG. They love Crosby.rass wrote:So what do you wash the MSG narratives down with when you swallow them whole like that?
Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
15-ish games a season? Even if I wasn't slightly pneumonia-ish right now, I wouldn't feel like getting in a Crosby argument this morning. Just iso-cam any player for a game and let's see how "clean" they are.mister d wrote:This makes me think you don't watch much MSG. Rosen is pretty good, though last night I could hear his pants stiffen everytime he mentioned Girardi in the third. He literally moaned in response to plays a couple of times, right?
I think the islanders color commentator (Rose is great, too) used to hate Sid, but I might be thinking of the radio broadcast.
All fandom aside, that was a very entertaining third period last night. Though not drinking might have helped my mood/enjoyment. Hmmm...

Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
You're referring to the Rob Rossi column?rass wrote:Pens front office meltdown is starting a little early.
Background for non-yinzers: Rossi is the least-respected sports-media figure in Pittsburgh. He was the Penguins beat writer for the Tribune Review, then was named lead columnist last year when Dejan Kovacevic started his own blog. He's smug and contrarian, and Penguins fans loathe him. And Penguins management hates him, too, apparently.
He wrote a column last week that detailed everything that went wrong with the Penguins this year. It was the kind of post-mortem you read at the end of a lot of failed seasons, but this was before the playoffs even started. Odd timing, and it apparently didn't sit well with management.
Rossi's family owns a Dairy Queen. That's where the ice cream comment comes from. After exiting a media elevator and while walking with other reporters to the Penguins' dressing room, Rutherford addressed this columnist, a frequent critic since his hiring last June, in an obscenity-laced diatribe.
“Thanks for your support,” Rutherford said repeatedly.
“You're a (expletive) jerk,” Rutherford said repeatedly.
Rutherford followed the jerk comment with a suggestion to “go sell ice cream now,” then a challenge to look him in the eye, which I did while explaining my role as Trib Total Media's lead sports columnist.
My role is to provide opinion.
“Well, your opinion is (expletive),” Rutherford said.
So, watching people take sides this morning has been fun. A lot of people are criticizing Rossi because he printed something that should have been off the record, which is an odd assertion. If somebody starts screaming at me in a hallway, I'm not going to interrupt him to ask if he's screaming on or off the record.
Anyway, just more drama to a season that's seen its share of it.
Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
Don't know much of Rossi's work prior to this year, but haven't really liked anything I've seen from him lately. Pretty much brings nothing of value to the table, his Hot Takes are unintentional comedy gold. (Pens final game of the season: "..Could be witnessing the final game of the Crosby-Malkin era...").
How is Kovacevic doing on his own? He has a strange boner for Winnipeg, so he's basically our sports radio go-to guy for anything Pittsburgh. I wonder how many subscribers you need to your App/Website to be profitable when all you have to do is crank out your own opinions over and over.

That's great that Winnipeggers know Kovacevic.travzilla wrote:How is Kovacevic doing on his own? He seems to be doing well. Enough subscribers to be profitable, at least. And he's still a big name in the market, even tho his stuff is behind a paywall. He has enough subscribers (and he posts enough on Twitter, I guess) that he still gets mentioned pretty regularly across various platforms.
(A Pirates blogger is implementing the same subscription plan. I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out, but I can't see his site doing nearly as well as Kovacevic's.)
Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
Its not the cheapies, its the cheapies + whining. Constant whining. "Daaaaaaad! Ryan hit me back!"rass wrote:15-ish games a season? If every Rangers reporter and commentator had to pick a player to J, it might be a clean sweep for Girardi. (He's also going to be a great test case for advanced stats going forward. He doesn't shoot and eats a ton of them, so his possession numbers suck, but he's doing it against top lines every night and top lines don't exactly hurt NYR at the rate they do other teams.)rass wrote:Rosen is pretty good, though last night I could hear his pants stiffen everytime he mentioned Girardi in the third. And no one outside of fans were paying any attention because all focus was on how loud and white Winnipeg was being.rass wrote:All fandom aside, that was a very entertaining third period last night. Though not drinking might have helped my mood/enjoyment. Hmmm...
Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
You know who I've noticed does a lot of bitching at the refs, though in a NBA superstar staring down the ref or shaking his head when a call is made (or not made) that he doesn't agree with sort of way, so even though his facial hair is just as shitty and boyish as Sid's you probably wouldn't call it whining? Kreider.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.
Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
Sure, bitching about the calls made against him, which makes him the same as every other NHL player. If he were whining that goalies were running him, then you've got a comp.
Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
I'm pretty sure he was just remarking how embarrassed Henrik must have been for flopping like that, and maybe how he regretted that his slight contact put Henrik in that position. He's an empathetic guy.mister d wrote:Sure, bitching about the calls made against him, which makes him the same as every other NHL player. Re: The 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs
"I didn't hip him in the head nearly as hard as Ryan hit me!" is exactly the sort of whining I'd expect from Crosby. Like to a T.

He loves the shit out of Peg City.
He's alright but I don't read too much because I don't want to pay him $5 or $10 or whatever a month to see just why somebody in management is wrong or why the players don't have enough fire during a loss.

Caps win for the first time in forever in that barn in OT. Series leveled at 2 apiece.
Typical 4 v 5 seed series, these guys are just very evenly matched up. I know the scores have been low -- really good goaltending from Holtby and Halak, and the just know how to take away each others strengths.
And, man, Backstrom... I've felt lucky to watch Ovechkin over the years, but I feel just as lucky to have been able to watch Backstrom.
