This is getting interesting.

Now if Belichick can pull an Ainge and somehow fleece Snyder in a subsequent trade for Garoppolo, that would be brilliant.

I agree he'll get extended immediately after any trade, just pointing out that the team trading for him doesn't have to do it right away.

Of course, as a Bears fan, my expectation is that they will overpay for him in trade, extend his contract right away, and he will bottom out.

Any other team, he'll be fine.
On a semi-related note, the Bears overpaying for Mike Glennon fits right in with my expectations.

Lions fansites are gleefully excited about the Bears pissing away cap room on Glennon. Anytime you can pay more money for a less talented QB than what you have under contract, you have to make that deal.

Lions sign RT Rick Wagner for $9M a year. Big upgrade over Riley Reiff.

The Bronco beat writer Mike Klis expects the Cowboys to hold onto Tony Romo until Jun 1, so that when they release him then, they have a smaller cap hit. Then, Romo will sign with either the Broncos or Texans.

The Broncos beat writer is surprisingly poorly versed on how post-June 1 cuts work.

I probably mis-paraphrased his comment, but in any case it would have been cap-advantageous to wait until June. I understand they’ll have to eat some $20 million in dead cap space when they cut him, but if they did it after June 1, they could have spread that hit out over two seasons instead of one.

Probably better to eat it now because in two years they're going to have some big extensions to pay likely.

Tyrod's the man in Buffalo.

Makes the most sense, and I honestly believe that if he gets some coaches who know what they;re doing, Taylor could be pretty good.

At least better than the other options that were being discussed.

Once the new League Year begins, teams are allowed to cut up to two players and have the Cap effect be as if they held on to them until June first (be able to spread the Cap hit over two seasons). This is why Romo will be released tomorrow.

The Pats traded for Dwayne Allen so Marty B posted this:

Interesting note: both players were traded with 6th round picks for 4th round picks.

Some interesting notes for the AFC Central:

- Reports are safety Tony Jefferson turned down much more money from the Browns so he could sign with the Ravens.

- Browns are signing WR Kenny Britt to a 4-year, $32.5 million deal ($17 million guaranteed).

- Bengals LT Andrew Whitworth is about to sign with the LA Rams on a 3-year, $36 million deal ($15 million guaranteed). If true, that's a huge blow for the Bengals, especially if Kevin Zeitler leaves, too.

Well, the new coach banned video games in the locker room, so there's a new sheriff in town.

Wait, what?

Maclin wasn't good enough for them?

Stephon Gilmore was bad last year, real bad.

2015 he was pro-bowl calibre.

Who knows how good he'll be playing for some real NFL coaches.

Former Bengals RG Kevin Zeitler to Browns on a 5-year, $60 million deal. $31.5 million guaranteed.

The Browns needed massive help on the offensive line, so signing Zeitler and Tretter to deals is huge.

I dont get it. Pats made their FA choices when they traded Collins and Chandler Jones. No clue why they wont pony up for them. Team guys and great players at key positions. Learned enough to trust in Bill but damn... he cant be serious about replacing potential all pro middle linebacker and corner.

The Browns are busting out an NBA salary dump move. They're getting Brock Osweiler and the Texans second round pick in 2018. No idea what they're giving up in exchange. Probably a broken shoe lace?

Yeah, you seldom see that, but the Browns were going to have to do some work just to get to the salary floor this year. Probably a good move for them. I doubt they're giving anything back to Houston other than a 7th rounder or something like that.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns are getting Osweiler, the Texans' 2018 second-round pick and the Texans' 2017 sixth-round pick in exchange for the Browns' 2017 sixth-round pick. She also speculates this means the Browns probably will release RG3 and Out.

ETA: I saw something earlier on Twitter that even after signing Britt, Tretter, Bitonio and Zeitler, the Browns still had something like $55 million in cap space. I have no idea what Osweiler's cap hit is, but it most likely will bring them up to the NFL salary floor as Brian said.

ETA Part 2: Apparently the Browns are giving up a fourth-round pick in 2017 instead of a sixth rounder.

Pro footballtalk:
Whether Osweiler will be able to start for the Browns remains to be seen, but this trade isn’t about the Browns liking Osweiler. It’s about the Texans wanting so badly to get rid of him that they think he has negative value.
Shefter:
Cleveland is not committed to keeping Osweiler and is likely to try to trade him, per sources...But this is one of the most, if not the most, creative trade in NFL history.
Browns on a rampage today.

The name "Osweiler" will forever be akin to "Munson" (from Kingpin)

It's worth a 2nd round pick to Houston to clear that cap space. Smooths the path for Romo to Houston, too.

I like what the Browns are doing. If they drafted a QB in the second round he probably wasn't going to start anyway, so let Osweiler be bad if you want and go from there.

Barnwell quickly chiming in:

Man, that contract was such a fuck up it made the Browns look like geniuses.

So yea, this is the most guaranteed money ever given out by the Patriots. Butler must be pissed:

The Pats also re-signed Harmon and Branch today too.

I'm thinking only if Romo goes to Houston. Otherwise Bouye's move to Jacksonville leaves Macho Man Tom Savage as QB1 right now.

Reading some rumblings around the web...the Browns want to ship off Osweiler and a late round pick for a 3rd rounder next year. They want to package a whole bunch of picks for Jimmy G. DePodesta is going crazy today.
