Yankees have gotten some breaks tonight, the biggest being that Hicks check swing.

How is it that fraziers first run counted as unearned? He doubled and scored on a single.

Inning was over if Urshela doesn’t make his first error.

Even before the fielding issues tonight, I really didn't understand Francona's decision to move Kipnis to CF to keep Urshela in the lineup. Wouldn't Kipnis at 2B and Ramirez at 3B, with Jackson and Chisenhall both starting be the best Cleveland lineup? Urshela is such a terrible hitter that even with optimal defense from him I question his inclusion.

I love that the great and mighty Yankees use every strikeout to honor a local discount electronics and appliance store.

Their best lineup involves Lonnie Chisenhall not playing defense.

The Indians blowing a 2-0 series lead would be pretty awesome, even if it’s to the Yankees.

I'd call that great managing by Girardi but I'm pretty sure he just didn't want to go out there and get booed.

If it goes Dellin —> Kahnle with a lefty hitting, I will yell the F word.

Even if the Yankees somehow win this series, I'm not sure we see another pitch from Betances this year.

I’d say it’s down 8 or never but the way Girardi is using the leverage guys it could come back around.

Nothing has changed from here, BTW. This isn't one of those "you know, they could have won the series already" things, its "this series legitimately should be over". If they lose tomorrow, there should be some seriously tough exit interviews with the new core before making any decisions. Girardi is great tactically relative to the league, but if he lost the team, he lost the team.

that would be a mistake. What other good managers are out there? Weren't the Yankees supposed to finish last this year?

Its more that player leadership is about finished turning over from the last era once CC and Gardner are gone and Girardi's contract is up, so the decision is forcing itself. Like I said, I really like him in game, but its far more important that Judge/Sanchez/Didi/Severino want to play for him for the next 5+.
(And they didn't finish above projections because Girardi set up a nice bullpen or lineup, its because an almost-failed starter became a legit #1 and two guys with less than a half year of PAs combined coming into the season became top 10 hitters in baseball. Girardi can get some credit for their development if you like, but they have to buy back into that.)

Best case for you, I assume, is a Yankees win where Gray has to relieve CC early. Would jam everyone up for Game 2.

Oof. Today's game rained out.
Washington gets to use Strasburg tomorrow on normal rest, instead of Tanner Roark today. Then Gio Gonzales on Thursday for a Game Five.
Cubs apparently are staying with Arrieta tomorrow. I'm not sure if I like that decision, given how well Hendricks has been doing in the second half and how well he did in Game One.

Heh ... Dusty announced he's going with Roark anyway. (I'd say "now watch him no-hit the Cubs," but that seems to be par for the course anyway.)

So how badly would Girardi need to fuck up tonight to get himself fired* with the possibility of either the NYM or BOS picking him up?

This would have all been avoided if TBS allowed the game to be played 3 hours earlier yesterday.

If the Yanks advance, his boneheadedness a few days ago will be a distant memory, and he'll get a fat raise.

Francona has obviously earned the benefit of the doubt, but some of his moves this series deserve scrutiny. I really didn't like pitching Bauer, on the road, on short rest. Especially when guys like Clevinger, Tomlin and Salazar were available. I also still have no idea why he's playing Urshela, and putting such a terrible hitter in the lineup. I can't imagine that any defensive advantage is enough for to justify that, especially since some of the defensive value of Urshela at 3B is likely mitigated by having Kipnis in CF instead of Austin Jackson or some other natural outfielder.

Agreed. “Francona is a great manager” needs to come with a caveat of “non-tactical”.

Unless there’s something known only to them, this is insane. Kluber getting squared up can still be Kluber against the next 3 hitters.
