I'm convinced the arbitrators in that case have never seen Wilson play.

I can only assume it's because Sundqvist is back playing for the Blues now. (Not that it's a good reason.)

Or they relied on the league's soft precedent. Cooke wasn't even suspended for pretty much ruining Marc Savard's life on a similar hit and Torres launched himself (into a star) to get over the 25 game mark.

There's a new CBA coming. I'm hoping the players actually ask for longer suspensions for hits to the head and really long suspensions for repeat violators. It's in all of their best interest.

Players almost always protect the offenders' salaries over their own well-being. Its insane.

Yeah, I think we're another generation away from players doing something like that in their own interest instead of preserving some stupid Goon Code.

We're still really barely out of the era of teams carrying a guy that barely plays on the 4th line, just so he can have some dumb gladiator moment for whatever perceived injustice occurred at whatever point.

Regardless of the CBA, I really wish the NHL would make all hits to the head a major penalty, regardless of any targeting assessment.

Tonight, Joe Thornton had the game-winning goal for the Sharks, in a very exciting 5-4 win against Nashville. It was his 400th of his career, to go with over 1,000 assists.

His skills are a bit diminished nowadays but over the years, I’ve enjoyed watching him as much as any player out there.

Red Wings are hot. They've won seven of eight to rise to... 12th in the East.

I have no idea which Tanner Pearson is the real version but I'm not sure I would have tacked two more years onto my already shaky cap situation to find out. How much better is "peak Tanner" than $4MM per season?

Ha. I didn't know they extended him. He's been pretty good in the past but he's been horrible this season. I guess the Pens are betting that the current season has just been an aberration.

Hitchcock won't retire until he coaches every team in the league.

They wear white for matinee home games like Nevada Day. Suppose today sort of qualifies.

I did not know that was allowed. I thought the league mandated darks and whites.

I watched some of that game in a bar before going to the Sharks game. Good game. I think those two are going to battle it out in the first round of the playoffs (2nd/3rd).

At this point I’d be over the moon if Vegas finished 2nd or 3rd in the division. It’s definitely San Jose’s division to lose.

Despite having coached only 105 games for Vegas, Gerald Gallant is almost at the mid-point amongst NHL head coaches for tenure (14 coaches have been with their teams for less time, 16 for more).

The Stars-Oilers game has been so bad they shouldn't give either team any points. Instead it'll be a 3 point game.

Is Erik Karlsson hurt or something? I've only seen about three or four SJ games and he didn't look great in any of them and I heard he looked pretty bad vs. Buffalo last night as well. Wondering if not doing an extension at the time of the trade to SJ is going to cost him any money.

He was second star last Friday night with one goal, two assists and +3, and scored and assisted in the game before that, too. I don't believe he is hurt - he is just like the rest of the Sharks - up one night, down the next. They seem to coast some nights. The Sharks gamble a lot with both Karlsson and Burns both regularly free-lancing and playing like forwards. That leads to odd-man rushes against them, and Martin Jones hasn't had great numbers against high-risk chances so far this season.
