FWIW, I hope Quinn gets to go on his trip. I love Lyon and have really enjoyed my time there. If he gets to go please make sure he gets at least one nice dinner at one of the classic bouchons.tennbengal wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 7:03 pm To add to that - they are pulling back hours and shifts at baltimore harbor because volume in-bound is off.

The Cheeto still not helping matters. Having an incompetent as president not ideal for crises.

I saw they allowed Fauci to go on news shows (I guess that depends on your opinion of the Today Show) this morning, but in the portion I saw they kept asking him about Trump’s “hoax” comments last night which he of course refused to discuss.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

My local Costco is out of paper towels, toilet paper, and bottled water. This being the desert, our stores tend to have crazy amounts of water at all times. A warehouse store running out is no small feat.

From Government of Canada:
ETA: My wife has insisted I go shopping tomorrow.
Never seen anything like this before.https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/ ... tock_up_on
Stock up on essentials but avoid panic buying
At this time, it makes sense to fill your cupboards with non-perishable food items, so that you do not need to go shopping if you become sick.
It is easier on the supply chain if people gradually build up their household stores instead of making large-scale purchases all at once. To do this, you can add a few extra items to your grocery cart every time you shop. Good options are easy-to-prepare foods like:
dried pasta and sauce
prepared canned soups
canned vegetables and beans
It is also a good idea to have extra stores of:
pet food
toilet paper
facial tissue
feminine hygiene products
The reason for stockpiling these items is not necessarily because you will need to self-isolate. Having these supplies on hand will ensure you do not need to leave your home at the peak of the outbreak or if you become ill.

We just got 3 cases from a local Catholic HS that just got back from a class trip to Europe.tennbengal wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 8:00 amWe should save that for the next pandemic...
Update on my end - the school seems to have laid down the marker that if the travel advisory to France, Brazil or Russia (the three countries kids at Friends are headed to) that they will re-evaluate at that time. At least that is something objective. Quinn is supposed to be two days in Paris and then 10 days in Lyon with a host family before two more days in Paris. The Lyon thing is probably the worrisome part because of its location near northern Italy and that fact that Lyon just hosted Juventus in CL on Wednesday and 3000 fans from Turin made the trip to Lyon. So, that seems like it might kickstart things there.
Quinn badly wants to go - is definitely not scared - but he's 18 and has that mindset. Jen and I want him to go, but want to be reasonable about the risks (Jen less nervous than I am ). Would be easier to assess if the cheeto running this country were not a corrupt liar and I felt more confident that I had all the facts. The French health minister was the one who made the call to allow travel for the CL game and has not raised the travel advisory level in that country, so perhaps I can trust him.
They are supposed to be on the plane two weeks from tomorrow. I would guess up until the moment they leave for Dulles the school can pull the plug. The contract with the company running the trip says no money back unless the advisory goes to "4" so...if the school cancels this, not getting any money back. Sunk cost, and all that.
