Yeh, the fact that they took all that public money makes the Flames look bad, now.

Same with the Winnipeg Jets.

Love how these teams sell themselves as being a "vital part of the community" when they want a few hundred million or so of public funds to help them make more private money.

Ilitch Holdings' $1 million commitment to pay the salaries of part-time workers during the coronavirus shutdown for the next month will cover about 1,500 employees.

But it might not cover all who work at Little Caesars Arena.

The Red Wings, like the also-Ilitch-owned Tigers, contract out food and beverage services to Sportservice, a branch of the Buffalo, N.Y.-based Delaware North company. Delaware North has contracts with some 50 arenas spread across four continents.

Delaware North chairman Jeremy Jacobs owns the NHL's Boston Bruins and the Bruins' and Celtics' home arena, TD Garden. He's worth $3.5 billion and has more than 50,000 employees.

A spokesperson for Delaware North declined to comment when reached by The Detroit News on Saturday.

LCA's food and beverage workers are represented by Local 24, which has more than 6,000 members. A message for union president Nia Winston was not immediately returned Saturday.

"Our sincere hope is that this provides comfort to our colleagues in this difficult time," Chris Granger, president of sports and entertainment for Ilitch Holdings, said in a statement.

On Saturday, in response to an inquiry from The News, an Ilitch spokesperson said the fund, which went into effect Thursday, covers ticket sellers, ushers, restroom attendants, guest-relations representatives, security representatives, parking attendances, game-day production staff and "others." It wasn't immediately clear if food- and beverage-service workers fall under the "other" category; a followup message from The News wasn't immediately returned.

The last official word from our club was that they would cancel all training until 3/20, even though all of our teams are either in that league I mentioned above or EDP (which is directly controlled by USYS) so there won't be games at least until April.

The club sent out a pretty oddly worded message to everyone in the middle of the day yesterday about how during times like these "youth soccer organizations should do all in our power to keep kids engaged in soccer" so as to not be an additional problem for them (kids) to deal with.
My daughter's travel club said they will send a series of videos with individual drills players can do by themselves in the backyard. Thought that was a good idea. Her academy sent a note to avoid playing in private indoor facilities due to the difficulty in disinfecting them and the recirculated air. Again, thought that was an interest thing to think to include. OTOH, they train at a brand new incredible facility, and the owner of the facility has a daughter playing in that academy, so I imagine he was less impressed with the message.
I've gotten two emails from the FP dome today. One this AM detailing their "Private Lesson Space" (max of 3 coaches per 1/4 of field, and 3 players per coach) and family open play sessions. Then one just now:
With the ever changing landscape regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19), the FP Sports Dome and Event Center continues to respond and adjust to the situation accordingly. Therefore, based on recent updates, all FPSD spring programs and offerings will be postponed until further notice.
Must have taken some shit.

My wife was just talking to her sister. One of the sister’s friends was out for a walk (they live in Scotch Plains, for you NJ folks) and saw a coach leading a soccer team through practice. A mom dropped off a crying girl and yelled at her “just go to practice!” Good stuff there.

If they end up terminating the season, it seems like a no-brainer to declare Liverpool the champion. Their magic number is 6, with 57 points remaining between them and Man City.

But damn, Bournemouth would be screwed. Unless they just skip relegation. In which case Leeds gets screwed (again).

Been seeing some fascinating proposals around what a restarted NHL and NBA might look like.

The most likely scenario in the NHL right now looks like starting the season back up in August, playing the playoffs in September and October and re-starting a full 2020-21 season in November.

Been hearing some rumblings about the NBA possibly moving their league year permanently to December-August to avoid the NFL going forward (presumably after trying to play this year's playoffs in the late summer/early fall).

I like this one for the NBA. It allows college basketball to whet the palate for almost two months before the NBA debuts on Christmas Day and they avoid most of the NFL season. They get their stretch run and playoffs against the dog days of MLB.

Who knows, more college players may stay in school after their season ends to finish the semester (and maybe a summer session or two) before the draft. Work out on campus with their teammates and add on a little more toward their degrees, then shift to the pre-draft workouts.

I don't think they'd consult with the NHL on it, but they should because it really works brilliantly for both. The NBA playoffs would be starting right around the time the Stanley Cup Finals are ending. Not sure if it makes arena availability worse for the NHL during the playoffs (during the NBA regular season), but seems like they could work around that OK.

Having the NHL cancel the regular season and having the Sharks credit back the money for March and April tickets in this god-forsaken season isn't the worst thing that could happen to this fan.

I feel obliged to report if you're jonesing for some real live sports as much as me there's a live Aussie Rules Football game on FS1 at 11 p.m. Eastern.

This could be just the thing Sumo needed to get a foothold in the west!

ETA - Tournament title will be decided in a match between the two Yokozuna. Put your yen on Hakuho. Kakuryu is great, but Hakuho is the G.O.A.T.
