Even if Clowe doesn't score much for the Rangers, I think he is what they need up front: a tough power-forward who will muck in the corners and keep the other teams from leaning so much on the Lady Byng types like Gaborik and Brad Richards. Clowe does go a bit nuts at times, but he wil drive the net, and is a hard worker who isn't afraid of anybody. The Rangers need a bit more grit in their forward lines, so I think this fills a need. Tortorella will love him.

Conversely, I worry a bit about the grit level of the Sharks, now, going into the playoffs. They have several middleweight grit guys, like Adam Burish, Tommy Wingels and Andrew Desjardin, but none of those guys bring the toughness of Clowe or Douglas Murray. Hmm... I'd hate to see Joe Thornton having to fill that role.

Too bad it's not 1998 Jagr. Actually, if it were, Lucic probably wouldn't be able to check as well:

Most of us are nervous at best. Good end, he contributes in his prior ways and cost us a bunch of picks. Bad end, and this is more likely, he's sloping down, cost us the equivalent of 3 2nds and costs $4MM+ as a 30+ year old 3rd liner. Weirdly, I'd rather him as a rental.

Yeah, how weird is that? I felt the same out-of-sorts way when the Sharks acquired Jody Shelley some years ago. But, the Sharks did need somebody good enough to play in the playoffs who is rough around the edges, so I certainly understand this move.

But, I don't care how good he is, I never want to see Corey Perry in a Sharks uniform. Same for Steve Ott, Alex Burrows or Matt Cooke.

I always liked Hannan, though, even if he is now about 60 years old or something.

Sooo... in his first period as a New York Ranger, Ryane Clowe has two assists and his first goal of the season - points on all three goals, as it is currently 3-0 for New York, against Pittsburgh. Storybook beginning for him.

If the new guys put up 4 goals and 4 assists every game, its going to be a really good pair of trades.

So the Caps are buyers at the Trade Deadline? WTF? Give up top prospect Filip Foresberg for Martin Erat and Latta. 4.5 Million/year on Erat with 2 years left. I know he is having a decent season but you are not playing Cup level hockey and are giving up youth for now and have a tight cap next year.

But it's about this year. Caps could win the division!
There's really no such thing as cup-level hockey, NHL is mediocre and it's playoffs are a biggest crapshoot.

ok objectively the return is good, but these are the times when being a (non-objective) fan of players and the team sucks.

<sigh>

well, i have a team now - Go Wild.

Press conference on Sunday to announce the worst-kept secret ever -- the 2014 Winter Classic will be at Michigan Stadium. Between those division rivals Detroit and Toronto.

If the playoffs started today . . . the Washington Capitals would be the #3 seed in the East. If there were no automatic bids for division winners, Washington would not qualify for the playoffs. They are 20 and 15 points behind the East's #1 and #2 seeds, 14 points behind the team they are seeded ahead of (Boston), and not among the top eight teams in their conference.

Just nonsensical. Angry?

You're on the right path!

My guess is 2 games for MDZ. It was reckless, which usually isn't time away, but the results looked bad and it was a star player.

(And how about Dupuis' followup. Rare you see such an obviously dirty play that a complete whiff still draws 2:00.)

Had he connected it would have been so dirty that I sort of thought Dupuis missed on purpose, and was just trying to send a message.
