That's where I am on this as well, but in skimming the report, it looks like Q might have a tiny bit of plausible deniability.

Re: 2021-22 NHL season
Did you get to the part where he reportedly complained that any corrective action would be a distraction to their playoff run?

I hope they have to give up Krebs to make it happen.

Makes as much sense as anything else. That team needs centers bad, and VGK ownership and management are always in win now mode.

I doubt they give up Krebs. They have to give up salary so it would probably be Alex Tuch and a couple of 1A prospects.

Eichel will be there for a decade. It's going to take more than that.

Re: 2021-22 NHL season
Not if his neck is fucked up and he really wants out bad enough. Buffalo's gonna have to sell low probably. Tuch is a local kid (Syracuse) which moves the needle a little and on a ridiculously cheap contract for his talent ($4.8x5) which Buffalo is also getting. Throw in a package like Lucas Elvenes and Brendan Brisson as well and it's not a super bad deal for Buffalo especially given their lack of leverage.degenerasian wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 4:34 pmEichel will be there for a decade. I don't know what I'm watching. Flames used to be the worst first period team, always playing from behind. Even the year they finished 1st in the conference, it was all 4rd period comebacks.
This year they are just blitzing first periods.

Re: 2021-22 NHL season
absolutely unreal that Quenneville is behind the bench tonight, let alone not removed from the NHL permanently.
if you have the will for it, here's the interview with "John Doe" from TSN tonight. So much awfulness...the entire Hawks organization deserves as much shame as possible.

Interesting that Kane and Toews are in "covid protocol"

Toews out of protocol tonight, I think. But yes, it should all be burned to the ground.

Re: 2021-22 NHL season
Obviously I don’t know team dynamics but Toews was super young that season despite being captain. Maybe it’ll come out he was the ringleader or something but I’d assume more focus should be on the veterans. And Patrick Kane because fuck Patrick Kane forever.
Re: 2021-22 NHL season
Ovi already has one tonight. A power play goal. He is now 3 behind Dave Andreychuk for the all time record.
Re: 2021-22 NHL season
The way Chicago is going Lundqvist might catch up to MAF in wins.

I will retract every anti-Ryan Reaves comment and thought I’ve ever had if he takes Toews’ and Kane’s heads and smashes them together making them crack like eggs.

The clowns in Edmonton
Sportsnet really needs to take some heat here. TSN has handled this very well, and given Westhead all the resources he needs to go after it.
Sportsnet & CBC on the other hand.....
All those losers on HNIC have just shown everyone how pathetic they are. So happy to about non-NHL issues like residential schools, mental health....but as soon as something arises regarding the NHL they get very quiet.
The Beach interview was heart-wrenching and none of the support he’s receiving today would have happened if not for the real reporters like Rick Westhead, Katie Strang, Emily Kaplan and Mark Lazerus who have done the hard work and dug into this story. The team would still be in denial mode if they weren’t forced into corner by these reporters’ tough questions and the backlash from negative coverage and perceptions.
Everything about this story has shown how ugly hockey culture can be and how hockey reporters” are willing to look the other way. Actual journalists uncover unpopular truths. There should be a lot of mea culpas—from the league, NHLPA, the so-called leaders on the team. But the media and NHL insiders need to own their share for ignoring the story as long as they did. They’ve shown they’re little more than part of the NHL’s PR machine. I guess all they can be counted on for is entertainment and sharing trade rumours and other speculation.

Re: 2021-22 NHL season
I'm trying to catch-up a bit on this story and have a decent handle on the role Blackhawks management played here... Haven't dug around much, but also haven't seen (Edit) stories showing how the players are culpable. Is the allegation that the players all knew this was going on and just didn't care? Didn't press management to do something? Allowed the guy to still participate in Stanley Cup celebrations?mister d wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 6:37 pm Obviously I don’t know team dynamics but Toews was super young that season despite being captain. I must be missing something pretty obvious (not unusual.)

Re: 2021-22 NHL season
this will sound biased (and it shouldn't be because I hate a lot of things about the Flames organization) but also this whole thing has really made me appreciate the way the Flames handled the Peters situation.
They didn't give him a platform to deny the accusations or say he had never heard of it (Coach Q).
They didn't allow him to remain behind the bench as he was held out of any games in the interim.
There was no talk about how Peters was a good guy who just made a mistake.
And they did their own investigation and fired Peters before the NHL could even step in or do their own thing.
Compare that to how Chicago, Florida, and Winnipeg are handling this and it really does make me appreciate the Flames leadership team a little more again this morning.

VGK just signed one of their young defenseman to an insanely team-friendly contract. For $2.75M AAV they were able to buy 4 UFA years.

Joe Veleno gets to make his season debut in Toronto. Probably not replacing Bertuzzi on the first line, but I can't imagine they brought him up to have him as a healthy scratch.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 9:01 amAfter several months of zero shots, Tyler Bertuzzi had four goals. Seven Sharks and the head coach all on the Covid reserve list. Sheesh!
ETA: Literally half the team last night was AHL players, guys usually healthy-scratched, and/or rookies... and they won.

Aaand... last night, again due to Covid, they played without four of their top six defensemen, their mvp-so-far Timo Meier, second liner Kevin Labanc and the head coach and won again. Flabbergasting. Not sure when they hit midnight and turn back into pumpkins but I’m enjoying it so far.

Red Wings are 0-3 with a total of five goals scored in Canada without the man who is reportedly the only unvaccinated NHL player. He's not the only reason, of course, but it's not helping.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 9:01 amAfter several months of zero shots, Tyler Bertuzzi had four goals. If this is true, why hasn't Buffalo taken it? I don't think Vegas can match.
I'm guessing the former 1st round pick is Valimaki.

Feels a lot more like a Calgary float to (1) get a team in their division to offer more and (2) let Tkachuk know there are even less desirable situations out there.

Seems like a great deal for VGK assuming the whole bionic neck thing goes well.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.
