If McDavid is playing while injured, it likely means a few things:
1. The oilers management are incredibly stupid. Just beyond incompetent to do that to the “Golden Goose”.
2. It might mean he needs surgery to fully recover from it but management knows they are beyond cooked if they shut McDavid down for 2 months. The docs may have said something like “he probably won’t make the injury worse by playing but will not get back to 100% if he keeps playing.”

I can't convince myself one way or the other on how great Draisaitl really is, or isn't. He clearly benefits from having McDavid on his team, either directly, on his line, or indirectly when not on his line, by getting easier matchups. With McDavid hobbled, he should be carrying the team. I know he still is putting up stats, but they aren't translating to wins. I dunno, maybe the problem is elsewhere. Their defense (Nurse!), goaltending, and secondary scoring are all sub-par. So, maybe he is Jacob DeGrom on the Mets

Caps are on a bit of a hot streak even with a cold Ovi. Not sure what to make of it but based on Charlie L's play over the last few games, Caps may have a goalie competition for the #1.

I don't think Bettman makes these decisions on his own. My guess is shit like this is delegated to someone like Colin Campbell, (is he still involved?) or Bill Daly. Whoever it is/are just cannot stop stepping on rakes. The weird thing is I don't think it's the advertisers. It could very easily be someone high up in ownership who is influential.

Originally I'd assumed it would be along the lines of "Perry was brought in to mentor Bedard so he was a complete dickhead, like his mentors presumably were to him and like he's been his entire career and probably life". This would be worse.

I just looked at the team website to see if they had any POC on their staff, thinking he got drunk and dropped an N-bomb or five in their presence, but the only photos are Wirtz's kids.
Hazing probably makes a lot of sense.

That's cute to say but it's also about the best way to fuck up a franchise's relationship with an otherworldly talent (they don't deserve). Like Mel Hall being a dick to Bernie Williams ended when they sent Hall packing. You can't undo(!) something like this.
