Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
I’ve lost twelve pounds in the past two weeks (so far).
1. Lots of walking - At least 10,000 steps per day (plus other occasional moderate exercise.)
2. No between meal snacks (almost).
3. Dessert and alcohol only on “occasions” (when out for dinner or with friends).
My goal is to lose five more pounds, then stabilize and maintain that weight.
ETA: Two good meals per day. Carbs in morning. Protein and greens in evening.

That crowd shot of me at game 5 of SCF really hammers home the point that I need to drop 10-15 lbs.

We've cooked in home meals since saturday and no eating out at lunch as just a general better way to eat. HAve a dinner out tonight, but it couldn't be helped, good friend's brithday!

Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
My friend offered me a free bib to do the Virtual Boston Marathon. I did a 14 mile run with him and it felt great, but there has been a persistent pain for about 10 days. Turns out I have an inguinal hernia so there goes my first attempt at a marathon.

aaah - What's the treatment? Just take it easy and hope it recedes or...?

Surgery. Only a week and a half recovery so now the stress is getting it scheduled. You could see the firedancer on the hat if it wasn't backwards
Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
Congrats on not waiting several years before finally going in and then having the doctor call in several residents so they could see just how bad a hernia can get, like my dad did.
Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
Don't congratulate me yet because the scheduler is on vacation till Monday. First doctor who diagnosed it said I couldn't do anything but then the surgeon said I could keep running before the surgery. Despite running much slower, it still felt strange and my lower back hurt after. I'm thinking it's psychosomatic because I was running faster with the pain before I knew it was a hernia. Sucks to have the habit of whenever I feel anything during a run I start an inner monologue about if it's a serious injury or not.

Yes. Just shooting at myself. Surgery is the middle of next month. I think I've already gained 10 pounds since I was diagnosed. Eating all I wanted and then running a ton was fun while it lasted.

Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
I don't know. The surgeon hasn't sent me much information yet, but my job situation and housing situation is very complicated now, so this is making things even better. Fun summer. Good news is I had a good slow run tonight, even with some hills, so I'm gonna try to get into slow, long runs to help my sanity.serrano wrote: Mon Aug 09, 2021 8:10 pmHow long will you be out of school?EdRomero wrote: Mon Aug 09, 2021 3:43 pmYes. Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
Did the Obliteride on Saturday (fund raiser for Cancer research...thanks to those that donated!). 110 miles, on a hot (upper 80's) and smoky day. Took about 7 1/2 hours of riding time. Felt pretty good, except for my feet. Gotta invest in some new cycling shoes.

The worst section was this:
Se 192nd St Climb
Sucked...it says avg grade of 9.3, but there where sections that were closer to 19-20%.

I just signed up for an over-40 indoor soccer league for the fall. I can't remember how long it's been since I last played on a team. Probably something like 15 years? It'll be interesting to see how my knees hold up. I've been doing my squats and lunges!

I highly recommend it. Been a blast to get back to playing soccer after years and years not playing.Shirley wrote: Mon Aug 16, 2021 4:19 pm I just signed up for an over-40 indoor soccer league for the fall. Also if given the chance...get nonlinear as your goalie..that helps too.
Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I was playing semi-regular pickup hoops before covid, but haven't done any sport since. And my soccer in the last jillion years was almost exclusively playing with my kids and sometimes their teams.wlu_lax6 wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 7:23 amI highly recommend it. Same for me. Went a couple years not tracking after my last Apple Watch quit. Then on a whim four months ago went and bought one. The rings are addictive. So went and bought a new bike. Have really enjoyed getting back to riding. Right now at about 60 miles per week, with my long rides around 40. Wanting to get to about 100/wk and then do the occasional century ride. Actually got on my mtb yesterday for the first time in months too, and it was fun. But I think I prefer road riding.

Thanks for asking. It went well. Tried to run yesterday and it started hurting at mile 3. Just have to be smart during recovery, although I'm doing a 5k next week. Already drunk at the Boston Marathon so all is good.rass wrote: Mon Oct 11, 2021 8:04 amHow'd the surgery go?EdRomero wrote: Mon Aug 09, 2021 3:43 pmYes. Just shooting at myself. Speaking of which, if any of y'all are in the market for a new bike my sister bought a bike company and makes custom titanium bikes.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
