"You know what really grinds my gears? This Lindsay Lohan. Lindsay Lohan with all those little outfits, jumping around there on stage, half-naked with your little outfits. Ya know? You're a... You're out there jumping around and I'm just sitting here with my beer. So, what am I supposed to do? What you want? You know, are we gonna go out? Is that what you're trying to - why why are you leaping around there, throwing those things all up in my, over there in my face? What do you want, Lindsay? Tell me what you want? Well, I'll tell you what you want, you want nothing. You want nothing. All right? Finally got a reasonable prosecutor on the Adnan Sayed case. I went back and read the initial discussions and it was kind of fascinating. You can see the split between folks that just listened to Serial, as opposed to those that kept digging with outside sources.

I remember listening to Serial and not thinking there was a miscarriage of justice, but then I must've completely missed that the prosecution failed to provide exculpatory evidence to the defense. Just that fact alone should've vacated his conviction.

As has been covered a lot on this thread over the years, I have very mixed emotions about Serial (S1, to be specific). Yes, they elevated this case to a national audience that surely resulted in his release and a potential new trial.

But SO MUCH of what freed him came from the hard work of the team that stuck with him and kept uncovering new pieces along the way.

It's not really fair to slag on Serial... but they did kind of set themselves up for failure and a lot of scrutiny in the years that followed.

Podcast from Austraila, Sports Bizarre. First episode is about Yankees Kekich and Peterson swapping wives. And also about Steinbrenner. Other episodes talk about Tour de France, Olympics. The story about Spain cheating at paralympic basketball is incredible.

My easy answer is that I am far too old and not a Spanish national, so the answer is "no."

Ask 22 year old me and the answer might be different.

Some schools do have kitty litter in classrooms. It in case of lengthy lockdowns/school shootings...

While I hadn’t heard about the kitty litter urban legend, I know of three local schools that allow kids to identify as furries and make other kids refer to them as a cat or other animal. One cat will only meow in class and hisses at other kids. I’m all for trans rights and accepting people who don’t fit the old binary model, but furries are a mockery IMO. Willing to listen and learn though.

No offense, but citation definitely needed for that. Like, they make the kids call the trans-species kid cat, opossum, mantis shrimp or whatever or do the kids have different names for the animal they identify as like Fluffy, Ratty, and Bad Ass?

My niece is at Kent Place in Summit. They have two kids who identify as animals. All girls school and my older niece who graduated last year had 50% of her class identify as trans, which raised some issues as an all-girls school, if a kid identifies as male, can they continue to attend the school?

Second is a mother of a girl on my daughter’s soccer team teaches at a middle school, I think Bernardsville, that is the cat who is allowed to respond in classes with meows and hissing. She was telling us about the girl, and another parent chimed in that their daughter has a furry classmate. They all attend school in animal costumes. The last one was either a Morristown or Morris Plains middle school.

I’m usually skeptical of this shit, like I just had an argument with a RW media consuming friend (he acknowledges all of Trump’s faults) that CRT isn’t taught in elementary schools.

So it sounds like the only accommodations the school is making is allowing the girl (cat) to meow and hiss, without punishment. Are they mandating that the other students treat her and refer to her as a cat though? If she's a female cat I wouldn't even think that'd be a problem.

They dress as animals, kids and teachers have to refer to them as animals and I’m not sure about talking in two schools, but one allows the kid to meow in response to a teacher. There is no way that doesn’t cause a distraction in the classroom. And does anyone believe these kids are actually a cat in a human body? I always thought furries were a sexual fetish, not a self identification.

My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with a girl who saw Ferris dress like a cat in school and made everyone call him a cat and he hissed at teachers. I guess it’s pretty serious.

I’m one step removed from all 3. My niece told me directly and I discussed it with another parent with a kid in the same school. I’m not out on a culture war crusade over this, just pointing out that there are actually real life examples.

I mean it’s better than them self-identifying as bodies completely shredded from gunfire from an AR-15, but the right cares more about this.

See, if I read about kitty litter at school I figure it's there for the offhand chance a kid pukes in class.

I remember a kid puked in the hallway once and the janitor used something that looked like kitty litter to sop it up. But it could've also been sawdust.

Yep, my elementary school janitor used kitty litter to clean up puke.

To be clear, even if all these examples of schools or districts twisting themselves into pretzels to make sure cat kids can do cat stuff all day long are true, the larger point is still to demonize trans kids so don't ever give a fucking inch.

I agree with you, it's a disgusting ploy from the transphobic (or RW pundits and politicians who know better but are pandering to transphobics) to delegitimize trans kids by throwing out wacky outliers whether they are true or not. Like the old argument that if we let men marry men, people will try to marry dogs or inanimate objects, so we have to stop it now. The Right does that with just about everything.

Anyone listening to Ultra presented by Rachel Maddow?

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-presents-ultra

It's pretty good. Tells of the story in the '40's when members of Congress were Nazi sympathizers and tried to spread propaganda and use it for power.
