Monterey gets a masked wrestler.

Dallas gets Dak Prescott.

We get our drab mayor. THAT is classic Toronto.

Pretty bummed not to have a DC/BAL venue, but Philly is a very easy drive, but I may not even be in this region in 4 years, so...

Also, all of the subs can be called to play instead of the previous limits. That will benefit the major teams.

I thought they did that at the last WC. Or was it Euro and I am misremembering?

At the last Euro you could name a 26 player squad but only 23 for each match. Sounds like this WC, it's 26 across the board.

Does it matter? Over under on total minutes for spots 24-26 across the entire tournament. 30?

I think it matters for injuries or specialist kind of guy. Extra roster spot would have been huge for the US in 2014 when Altidore went down. Could have had Landon coming in.

For those of you who are still reading, I really wish we had a free kick and corner specialist for late in games. Acosta is okay, but not world class and not somebody you would put in for that purpose.

Just heard Roger Bennett's interview with Matt Turner, and he mention his first ever appearance in college, where he let in a goal so bad, it featured on SportsCenter. Probably not many clips from Fairfield v. Iona making SportsCenter. Googling it, there were lots of articles on various sites at the time. Who'd of thunk this kid would become the USMNT's probable #1?

And interesting to me and a few of you, Turner is half a Jew! Never knew that. Rog said Mazel Tov on the family and Turner responded with L'Chaim. His grandparents had their name changed when they fled Lithuania from Turnovski.

Seems odd to change it now. Seemed odd to not have them lead off the tournament in the first place. This whole WC seems odd.

This makes a lot of sense. It also means that the tournament will start on a Sunday at 11AM Eastern, which is very interesting for Fox.

Howie, Terry, Jimmy and the rest of the gang going manning cast style? CBS must be salivating over the idea of having their big pre-game competitor pushed to FS1. No way FIFA lets game 1 go to FS1 right?

Aaronson is taking corners and set pieces at Leeds. Well, so far, splitting that with Honorary New Jersian Jack Harrison.

I've been extremely annoyed with Pulisic, especially on corners. That is a real danger aspect of our game and that dude hits them way too hard and short all the fucking time.

The original schedule had Qatar/Ecuador the first game of the four on Monday. But then someone probably said it's stupid to have Qatar play at 1 in the afternoon on a Monday so lets move the game to 7 primetime. But now it's not the first game which pisses off FIFA. So now they want to move it to 7 the night before.

Just checked, in the 6 WC since USA 94, 3 times all of Group A played on day 1, and 3 times just the host and their opponent opened play with one game on the first day.

I don't care about the lack of red (although I bet they could have worked some minor designs inside of the white numbers?), I like those a lot.

I was being sarcastic but they do look very good. Certainly a step up on a lot of the designs for previous WCs.

I'm just glad to be rid of those awful swirly disasters. I tend to buy new jerseys when they come out... didn't even contemplate that for a nanosecond with the current one.

Good riddance.

This is the best uniform in a really long time, I'm loving it. I would have said I hate most of the uniforms over the years, but I looked at the chart below, and in retrospect, I like about half of them. I just hate them when they are new, but now I feel nostalgic towards a lot of the old ones.

The only ones I truly don't like are the 94's. And that's not retroactive, I hated those things from the jump. I have 5 different jerseys, but haven't bought anything from 2016 on... Gonna rectify that with this, methinks.

This dude was an intermittent Swamper for a while, and in addition to his excellent Swamp-inspired Blackpool t-shirt, I've twice bought the ringer tee version of this design from him.
