Two days of not wearing a mask at school and my son has a fever this morning. Overachiever.

Happy on the soundtrack choice, but she refused my notes when I suggested syncing up the shot of crossing the GWB with “no smog”.

So, I'm pleased to report that my daughter received a full-time job offer today (she graduates from University of Washington in Seattle in June). The job title would be Software Data Operations Engineer. I'm thrilled for her, but not knowing the Redmond/Seattle job market, I don't know if she's received a well-compensated offer or not (I suspect it is good for somebody just out of school). Any of you who have an idea what a job like this might be expected to pay - I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts (DiS? Rerun? Blundercrush? Others?)

Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
I remember my first real job and I made about what my mom made after working (admittedly for the county government so not exactly a hedge fund) for 30 years. My oldest's job this summer puts them in nearly the same boat with me salary-wise. Granted, I have great benefits and do get the occasional bonus, but I go from gobsmacked that I've done this for 25 years and that's where my salary is to the more default - I'm glad they are making a good salary out of the gate. Of course they get paid for working in DC so that's a natural salary inflation, but I just hope they never have to go backwards and never have some of the struggles we had as young folks without two nickels to rub together.
Congrats on her finding a job! one less thing to have to fret over.

Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
If she is in Seattle Redmond she will do just fine. Maybe the pay is not "crushing it" right out of school but assuming she is good at what she does, the market for good people is hot and will have the ability to get the next gig for a nice bump. In the tech world the salary's start generally a bit higher than other markets, go up quick and then flatten (unless you are a superstar). At some point the less technical pointy haired bosses/MBA folks/etc overtake you.sancarlos wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 1:30 pm So, I'm pleased to report that my daughter received a full-time job offer today (she graduates from University of Washington in Seattle in June). That's great to hear, SC.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Let's just throw four words together. Fresh college grad thinking they just landed a sweet deal. They won't know the difference. Just make sure they fill out the TPS reports correctly.

Tell her to walk in and demand Scrum Master status or she walks. It’s the Millennial way. Or is she whatever comes after Millennial? And didn’t she just start college 2 years ago?

About 50% of jobs in life. Eventually you get confident enough to ask what the job is during the interview. Later still you get smarter and realize the person you asked doesn't know either. When you finally get wise enough to call bullshit and really understand what you're getting into before you accept... They reorganize and you get a new boss before you start and you still don't know what the job is.

I don't know if I'd be able to be a good judge on a salary range. I do know that tech companies in the area are starved for talent right now, so I'm sure its a competitive offer.sancarlos wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 1:30 pm So, I'm pleased to report that my daughter received a full-time job offer today (she graduates from University of Washington in Seattle in June). Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
I've had 2 jobs in politics where I had people not so subtly tell me it was a very tough gig. One I would've taken regardless because it was an absolute diamond on my resume and I was young enough to eat the hours and swallow my pride.
The second one was a more complicated situation and I was able to use my foreknowledge to work out a better managerial situation. But like HC said, that came with more wisdom and confidence to sort that out pre-acceptance.

Lucky enough to meet (inside joke) the happy family. Baby is adorable dude.elflaco2 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 9:04 pm only pics shared have gone to family -- and the few parents on the sidelines, they saw on my phone
the mrs hasn't shared it on social media.. expect she will tomorrow.
my dad shared a few pics and i had to ask him to take them down.
he is perfect. Beautiful kid.
The boy (Sebastian) is good.. 7.7, so a full 2lbs smaller than his brother. quiet kid. completely different. great temperament.. had a bit of high bilirubin.. spent 12 grueling hours under the blue light. that sucked. almost didn't get released on sat. but we came home. folks came yesterday. first doc appt is tomorrow, hopefully we get good news
the mrs is ok. tired, cranky and pained. (csection) but she's getting through it.
i've done all the overnights (1130,230,530) since saturday. so i'm cranky too - but i've scotch (although will need to replenish before too long)
