I have the neckbeard (which is a gross term). Its actually way more symmetrical than I would have guessed but it still needs to go.
I should find it, but the last pic I recall without hair on my chin makes me look like a fucked-up porn star.

I grow facial hair pretty fast, but I just hate the feel of it.

I once cut my upper lip and above while trying to pry two buckets apart. Really dumb way to injure oneself... I grew a goatee while that healed. I hated the look, but it did cover up the cut pretty well.

My dad never had a beard until he got in a car accident and messed up his chin and now has had his coverup beard for like 50 years.

My dad had a fall in the shower Saturday so he’s been in the hospital for observation since then. He’s getting released today, so that’s good news. But seeing all the doctors coming in and seeing him, and they’re all younger than me. That’s jarring.

The wife and I both turn 65 this year. So, I'm shopping Medicare supplemental insurance plans. If that doesn't make a guy feel old, I don't know what does.

Take an Advil or two for sure for the next 48. Then you’re gold.

Ok, I’m where Brian was. It still sucked shit (5 shots, 3 diff x-ray breaks, 2+ hours) but if you fear a 10 and get a 7, I guess it’s not too bad. Plus I was smart enough to take off so I came home, popped some Advil and a little weed and napped.

My mom used to say "I'm too old to care," and I am trying to live that advice. Certainly when it comes to pop culture - don't give a crap.

Actually, just started feeling incredibly old realizing that my mom died at 65 and I am now 60.

Whisky time.

The local Oldies station in my neck of the woods, WOGL 98.1, switched from a Top-40 station to oldies back when I was in middle school. It was 50s/60s/occasional 70s at the time. It slowly inched forward over the years to be around 30 or so years prior, so today it's 80s/90s/early 00s. I just heard "It's the End of the World as We Know It", another song I remember when it was released.

I don't feel fine.

(Although not as jarring as hearing that Chumbawumba song, which was released after I graduated college.)

No joke, get a broker. They get paid by the insurance companies, but can lay out all your options very easily.

As for me and feeling old, I am at a recruiting event at Murray State and these are toddlers!

Good to see you posting again D3P! I don't agree on using a broker. Brokers will steer you to a client they represent, which may not be the best price.

Here are my key findings.
1. If you already take social security benefits, you will be automatically enrolled in Plan A (hospital coverage - free) and Plan B (medical - it costs everybody the exact same premium amount per month; covers 80% of medical). Otherwise you will need to enroll on medicare.gov.
2. Go to medicare.gov and sign up and create an online account.
3. Use medicare.gov's tool to comparison shop for a Medigap/Supplemental insurance plan to cover the remaining 20% of medical costs. There are various plans, but it's hard to upgrade later so we are going for the best one, which is Plan G. For each plan, each insurance company provides exactly the same coverage (by law), but prices vary by insurance company. The online tool compares prices for you for each insurance company. We found that if you join AARP, they have a plan through United Healthcare that was the cheapest for us - a broker wouldn't necessarily have told us that.
3a. - There is a thing called Medicare Advantage that eliminates the need for supplemental, but notably, you are limited on your medical providers, so we didn't opt for that.
4. The same medical.gov tool can be used to pick a drug plan (you input all the prescription drugs you take) - again, all insurance companies provide exactly the same coverage, but prices vary.
5. Contact your current health insurance company in advance to cancel coverage on the same date your medicare coverage begins. BTW, medicare coverage starts the first day of the month you turn 65, assuming you've enrolled.

This is more - shit that makes you feel better about getting old. It's an article about folks in their 80s and 90s still skiing. It's relevant to me not only because that's what I want to be when I grow up, but also because I've gone skiing with my mom in Colorado each of the last two winters. She was 83 and 84 those two years. And she wants to do it again next year. We even went into the bumps and trees with the fresh snow!

One of my tennis groups has an 85 yo guy, and that gives me a ton of hope that I can keep going for a long time. He still moves fairly well, and hits the ball harder than most. His mind is incredibly sharp (except when calculating how much we owe for the year at the indoor facility, has to resend 20 times) and he is hilarious. Had no idea he was that old until he mentioned his 35 yo grand son and I had to do a double take and he told me his age. Scared the hell out of us last summer when he took a hard fall. Turned to run back on a ball and tripped over his own feet. Police car was driving by right as it happened and the cop ran out to help. Cop asked if he needed an ambulance, old-timer replied, "give me a minute, not sure if I need an ambulance or a hearse." Cop said, "let me know, I have a number for both."

A couple things for me:

I look at pics of myself just 5 or so short years ago lifting WEIGHT and now when I go to the gym I'm like "How the fuck did I lift so much? This shit is heavy." And I was like 205 lbs. Now I'm like 230 lbs and can't seem to lose it. Very disheartening.

I see some random person who's internet famous and I'm like "I seriously don't know where you came from, but who the hell are you and why are you on my Instagram feed?"

I am envious of those old skiers. There was a time in my life when I skied 30+ times a year. Now, with eye and shoulder issues, my balance seems off. So I may never ski again. It’s not a big deal, given the cost, anyway, but it does make me wistful.

It is expensive, but with planning, there are ways to make it cheaper. BTW, my mom skis with this thing called CADS, which are poles that attach to the back of her boots and waist. They give her a bit more support.

While discussing brackets, I mentioned “that Bird-Magic Final Four” at my partner meeting yesterday.

No one knew what I was talking about. Only one of my partners had even been born yet.

I remember reading about it...

That killed me working in a law firm, talking to partners and realizing they were in elementary school when I graduated law school. And thinking back to how intimidating law firm partners seemed, and now they look like kids to me.*

*Only the youngest, there were some that might have been close to Steve's age.

And one of the last final fours to be played on an actual college campus (U of Utah Special Events Center).

And, if I remember correctly, it was the last one to have the 3rd place game.

Because DePaul was one of the other semi-finalists.

Nope. The last was in '81. UVA and Ralph Sampson beat LSU. It was played just a few hours after Reagan was shot.
