Took Harrison last round, will take one of his buddies this round.

Post-GOTG2, the kids decided that Mr. Blue Sky was the coolest song ever and despite an inordinate number of listens last year, I'm still not sick of it.

I wore that 8 Track out!

About 6 songs came flooding into my brain when I saw that cover.

FUCK! This album was the reason I asked that (in hindsight stupid) question before my 11th round pick.

Dammit.

I’m at the MVA. ‘Out of the Blue’ is a great pick. Let me ruminate a bit. Will have LP later this afternoon!

Solid pick, from my perch at least.

I'll let this one breath for a bit... Got mine queued up and ready to go. Fire it off before I leave work.

The only thing I know about Squeeze is that there's a moment in the song Tempted near the end where the vocalist makes a grunting noise that sounds like a wookie pinching off a deuce. It fascinates me every time I hear it.

I mean, I (like most people my age (and younger), I'd imagine) largely discovered Squeeze (aside from the radio staples, 'Tempted' and 'Black Coffee in Bed') via their greatest hits, Singles, 45 & Under. I borrowed Cool for Cats from the radio station I DJ'd for in college, and while I picked up others from their catalog as well, this one stuck best with me because my favorite tracks of theirs are 'Slap & Tickle', 'Up the Junction' and 'Goodbye Girl' (all of which are found on Cool for Cats). Oh and shoutout to what is probably my favorite Squeeze track in that it was released when I was coming of age into my musical preferences...'Hourglass'.

But I digress.

That vocalist was none other than Paul Carrack. (Elvis Costello produced that track, and actually sings some backup in that song, too)...

Have loved Tempted since I was a kid and had no idea what it meant, so East Side Story was on my break in case of emergency list.

Looking at my cabin, and recognizing a few of my "fun" picks got zoinked from under me, I do need a little less brooding and some music to take the edge off now and then.

And I can think of no other band that combines solid musical chops with a humor that lets you know that even though they have a stand-up bass, they're not taking any of this shit too seriously.

It also is in keeping with my quasi-Canadian heritage, in that I was introduced to this group by my wife's cousins from Ajax, Ontario many moons ago at their cabin on Rice Lake.

In the 12th Round, NLFC is politely pleased to pick...

Bare Naked Ladies - Gordon

One of my bigger musical unanswerables is whether Steven Page's voice would have made him a legend if he wasn't in a half-goof band or if the goof aspect kept his voice from being insufferable. Eh?

Looked up the year - 1981. I was in grade 12, so it would have been a hash-crazed evening. So details are sketchy all these years later...

Show was at Maple Leaf Gardens (the "concert bowl" set up, could seat 8,000 or so. It was full)

Squeeze opened up (must have been promoting "East Side Story"). I remember liking them, but not as much as when they played Massey Hall (smaller venue) a few months earlier. Like I said, details are sketchy, but this concert was always in my mind as one of my favourites... Elvis was amazing that night. A lot of "Get Happy," a lot of energy and a crowd that was going nuts. I remember that Squeeze joined the Attractions for the encore.

Man, those were the days.

Might be the best value pick in the draft, Rush. If it wasn’t obvious, that’s who I almost picked here ...
mister d wrote: Fri Mar 09, 2018 12:03 pm I started to write up a different, older and much more popular group but couldn't pull the trigger. This adds more of a different sound and (to my knowledge) none of the members are massive, insufferable dickheads ...

More singer/songwriters for me. To me, Hay's solo work blows anything he did with Men at Work away. It's all very heartfelt and I find myself listening to it often. He has re-released lots of songs on different albums, but I think this qualifies as a true studio album, unlike Man @ Work, which is clearly a greatest hits re-recording.

Colin Hay - Going Somewhere

Has 3 of my favorite tracks of his on one record, but strong top to bottom. Maggie is a must listen. Sad song.

Dances with Wolves (1) - BSF

"This place was rockin'," said BSF21.

"There is nothing ever uncommon about BSF21."

~31 minutes...Yowza.

I thought Robert Palmer’s ‘Sneakin Sally’ coming in at ~37 minutes would’ve been the shortest.

I give it an OK. Even being a founding member of Weezer, Matt Sharp was only on the first two studio albums.
