4th and 19. First half. Close game. Punting out of your own endzone. Why not try a fake?

Dumbest play of the year so far and it's not even close. I never understand how coaches outsmart themselves sometimes. They get a lot of criticism when a risk goes poorly but faking on 4th and 5 from midfield is a far cry from this. I wish people would quit killing coaches as much for the former.

Small sample size, but funny that 6 of 8 of those games still went over.

Also, you look at that and if you're a Texas Tech fan you have to be thinking -- "maybe we should actually try to work on our defense a little"

Baylor's in 5 of the 9. Add in TCU, Texas Tech , and Steve Austin and you have 11 of the 18 teams. Nice work, Texas.

I'm still not sure what happened in that Penn State game. Anybody here watch it?

Because the PSU team that played MI? That team struggles to beat anyone in the top half of the conference, let alone the best team in the conference.

Ohio State has struggled three straight weeks though, especially offensive. Michigan is definitely the more complete team right now. Of course, I have no doubt OSU will right the ship before they play in a few weeks so that one should be a classic.

To answer your question, it was a combination of PSU playing well defensively and frankly a bit of luck (the blocked FG/return).

Yeah, I don't buy an OSU in peril, especially with the game in Columbus. And I don't like to get too wrapped up in the transitive property of football game, but, geesh... I haven't looked, but I wonder if PSU got some guys back from injury... I remember the LBs were a really thin unit when MI played them.

But if they are struggling against PSU's defense, guys back from injury or not... And if the main issue is in the air?

I know M's defensive stats right now are bonkers, mainly because they haven't played a bunch of great teams, but... Colorado, Wisconsin and, er... Penn State have been pretty good in the air this season. Again, I know M's defensive stats are a little inflated, but... If the offenses are a wash of mediocrity, I will take the two defenses up against each other to tilt M's way this year.

My hot take: At least once a year mid-season for a few weeks, Meyer coaches scared and tightens the reigns offensively, and it costs them. Michigan State last year, Penn State a week ago. Meyer: he's no Nick Saban.

I watched a portion of the game and they mentioned that PSU had a couple linebackers back from injury. Jason Cabinda was one of them.

During a PSU game earlier this season, they were down to something like their 4th MLB at that time.

I think the expectations for tOSU were kind of unfair given how young the team was. Don't forget they lost something like, what, 12(?) guys to the NFL draft last year. People expect teams like Ohio State and Alabama to just reload after losing that many guys but that's the exception and not the rule. Believe it or not, Alabama may still yet have a game or two where all of those redshirt freshmen and sophomores play like it.

Nice day for Bobby Pentz, as Wyoming gets a touchdown and two-point conversion to tie #13 Boise State midway through the fourth and a safety with under two minutes to go to win. First win for the Pokes over a ranked team since 2002.

Oh, and he got married or something.

That was from many moons ago I think. Just illustrating why his wife may not have wanted him to play soccer so close to the wedding date.

Damn near a colossal upset by UVA over Louisville this weekend. They led nearly the whole game, lost the lead and then went and got it back late. Bronco successfully went for two to take a 1-point lead, but they left too much time - nearly 2 minutes.

If they had a reliable kicker, they might have put this one away earlier.

Progress isn't linear, and things looked shaky for UVA the previous 6 quarters, but the Louisville game confirmed what had showed in the previous 5 games. This team and this program is on the rise. Now if they'd stop staging fights between players...

Sounds like Colorado last year. Their record was terrible in 2015, but hurt by the fact that they lost several games in the fourth quarter. This year they took a surprising turn upward in their record, largely because they are closing teams out instead of losing late.

UK controls their own destiny for 2nd in the SEC east. It's unlikely we beat both UGA and Tennessee but neither of those is setting the world on fire. It'd be cool to knock at least one of them off to get a better bowl, assuming we also handle Austin Peay in a few weeks. Not expecting to give Louisville much problem.

For those that didn't watch, the UM-MSU scoreline is pretty misleading. MSU took an eternity on every drive, even deep into the 4th Q when they had sliver of a chance to get within 2 scores... One particular drive, they take up a huge chunk of the clock in the 3rd when they are down 20 pts. Instead of going for it on 4th and 5, Dantonio elects to kick a FG. After the game, he says he was trying to get it down to a two score game.

I'm not great with math, but... 20-3=16??

Also, after scoring a touchdown with :01 on the clock and down 7, he elects to for 2. This failed in spectacular fashion, when the pitch was fumbled and Peppers picked up for a 98 yard conversion the other way. But, no, he wasn't playing for cosmetics.

(The other Sparty, NO! moment was the intercepted pass at the end of the first half. You've trying to shorten the game, and with a minute left on your own side of the field, now it's time to air it out? Against that DL and those CBs? Just a terrible decision, which turns into a M FG and a pretty deflating march into the locker room.)

Not too look past SC this week, but the Apple Cup (in Pullman this year) is looming large.

I know you probably just want to draw attention to your own call, but Washington is probably fine if they win out. Although it seems dramatic, Clemson, Michigan and Washington all losing the same day doesn't actually matter much. They all probably still control their playoff destiny since I can't imagine a 1-loss ACC, B1G or Pac-12 champion getting shut out.

i think clemson might be done. louisvilles 1 loss will look better than clemsons and its better to lose early than late. i dont think 234 all losing gives us anything but chaos. what couldve been a nice 4 team playoff with 4 undefeateds is going to somehow turn into 3 sec teams and louisville
