Games like the Winter Classic remind me why TV production of sports is such a big deal. Camera placement and angles make a huge difference. So the winter classic just has a different look. Some odd angles ..the top down looked good on St. Louis' goal.

Also love the fake leather color for the throw back gloves. Hopkins did that a bunch of years ago for the Maryland - JHU game 100th meeting.

I liked McClellan as a coach when he was with the Sharks. Got to chat with him once. He was very friendly and gracious.

So if Ovi keeps up this place and breaks the records, does he come back next year? Does he retire? Does he go to finish in the KHL? Does it matter how the caps do in the playoffs? Contract goes through next season.

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner were each -6 tonight. Don’t see that every day. Jordan Staal, the checking line center who matched up against them, scored a hat trick.

At 5-1 I was ready to just ignore the Pens for the rest of the season if they lost last night's game (or even if they allowed it to be tied up at all).

I think if the Caps were hovering around the same as they were last year (-27 GD, barely scraping into the post-season), he might look to move on or retire. But the fact that this team is leading the conference and playing so well... Hard to just walk away.

About 4 minutes left in the 1st and the Sens/Pens on their third stoppage to throw punches at each other.

Meant to post that prior to the Nashville game, the Caps are barely treading water the last... 12 games or so? They have gotten points out of games they probably shouldn't have.

I get that they were going to revert to the mean at some point, and if they can get through this stretch and get back to form, most folks probably won't even remember December being funky.

But they need to snap out of whatever is going on, or they are going to have a really rough 2nd half.

Now seven after scoring four goals in the first eight minutes and coasting past the Kraken, but against a mostly weak schedule (WAS at home and WPG on the road are the highlights). Obviously, regression will come eventually, but if they're not careful, they could end up on the fringes of the playoffs again.

Nice debut by Ethan Frank..not excited to see a goalie go down, but the Caps have been doing alternate games with their goalies up to this point and the call up from Hershey can hold his own.

Yeah, that kid can absolutely fly. I love how much the Caps are able to tap into the Bears in meaningful ways every year.

And I've talked about the goalie as he was making multiple Calder Cup runs. He's smaller than a lot of current day NHL goalies and his style is a little wonky... But dude is clutch.

Those 90s Sabres black and red unis have aged nicely, especially when deployed in small doses.

My sister and BIL drove up to this game, you can easily see them (behind the Sabres goal in the second). He’s wearing a red crossed Sabres jersey, easy to pick him out.

Feeling stressed out about politics, etc., needed to relax a bit - … ah, the Sharks are on tv, and they’ve even got an early lead!…

They blow a four goal lead in the third period and lose … ah, so relaxing …

Nothing would be more 00s Rangers than trading JTM before his peak, letting him play his peak elsewhere and then acquiring him post-peak.

It could still be a great trade if you don’t give up too much for him, assuming he doesn’t foul up your cap.

The rumors are Chytil, Lindgren, 2 meh prospects and a 1st. Which is way too much for a contract that should be dumped, not auctioned, even with the massive injury risk Chytil carries.

Yeah, that's the *mostly unspoken thing about Miller. He's 31 now, with 5 more years after this one at 8m AAV. That's a contract to dump, not trade for.

That's always been the apologist line for why NYR decided to give up the best and second best assets in the McDonagh trade, people just couldn't deal with him anymore and his rep around the league meant he wouldn't command the proper return. There's a part of me (a mostly dumb part, but hear me out) that wonders if Drury thinks bringing Miller back can (1) get a(n American) player he clearly likes but also (2) help wipe out the core because guys will be more willing to leave if he's around.

McDonagh certainly appears grumpy as hell all the time, but you never hear about him being bad in the room around here.

ETA - forgot that we got him AND Miller in the same trade. Fucking hell, that was a bad one for you guys.

I know I’ve said this before, but the was complete confidence when we found out Miller was included that it meant Sergachev in the return. Instead if was Libor Fucking Hajek.
