No, J-Lo just has the worst taste in music of anyone I know.
Fair point.

BTW, REM has a lot of great songs, but most of them are from the five albums they made before they got noticed by national radio.

(and I agree on Foreigner. Wore out my buddies cassette tape of Foreigner 4. But we were 10 years old.)

J-Lo's honest faves are basically "1:30 AM at the bar and everyone is in a great mood".

My angle on this is to try to think of some legendary pop musicians, whose songs I generally like. And then consider which of their relatively popular songs I would least like to hear come on the radio. Not just mediocre or bad songs. Everyone records so many of these. But songs that seem to be popular enough to still show up on the radio, but which to me are real dial turners.

The Beatles -- Ob-la-di, Ob-la-whatever

Rolling Stones -- Emotional Rescue

Billy Joel -- Anthony's Song

Springsteen -- The Rising

That song is awesome.

(My reaction likely has something to do with one of my buddies absolutely slaying it with this song at Rick's karaoke on spring break in '91. When he donkey kicked the stool off the stage during the crescendo, a good portion of Duvall Street let out a collective cheer. Best. Karaoke. Ever.)
Look, I once got abuse for denigrating Michael Keaton, and I understand how some intelligent people can enjoy his work.

But no one over the age of 14 should listen to Bon Jovi. They are in the pantheon of truly shitty bands, purveyors of idiotic cliches. Infact, I would term them the Bryan Adams of bands.

Sorry if I offended anyone, but Bon Jovi is a hot button for me.

(And this has nothing to do with failed actor Jon Bon Jovi pretending that he has enough money to buy an NFL team and move it to my city).

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. That said, Wanted Dead or Alive is one of my guilty pleasures - the only Bon Jovi song that doesn't get me quickly changing the station.

Yeah, but the next summer (1982-3) I met up with a guy that would turn out to be my best friend for life and he turned me on to the rapidly spreading rap/hip hop scene. Specifically, The Electrifying Mojo who would Land the Mothership and crank out a crazy eclectic mix that included rap, early techno, rock and funk. Changed my (musical) life, that show.

The "offended" angle is a bit of a straw man. It's the same thing with food or literature... I'm not the type of person to be offended by someone's personal taste.

I'm, again, going back to the point of the exercise. "Technically"* you shouldn't have put the song up, because they don't pass the "good - great" smell test from your perspective. You think the entire catalog sucks. Fair enough. I'll let the executive team make the call on that.

But the song, if you put Bon Jovi in the good-great category, is not a shitty song. Overplayed? sure.

When I was a young man, the Who were it. My love for them was nearly religious in its intensity.

But they have released nothing but dreck and/or repackaged versions of "Meaty Beaty Big And Bouncy" for the last 35 years.

As the years go by, Page and Plant's decision to end Zeppelin after Bonham died looks like one of rock's all time great artistic decisions. All Zeppelin fans were spared the pathetic sight of 70 year olds lumbering through "Black Dog."

You are correct!

And yes, he has a "loaded six string" on his back to address the gun-toting issue.

BTW, I might also like this song because of it's obvious similarities to Seger's "Turn the Page."

I like this song because it's fun to play on guitar and everyone knows it.

Bon Jovi has plenty of other songs to pick from...Love a Bad Name, Lay Your Hands on Me, Bed of Roses.

The wife's personal favorite, I think. I give her very little shit for the Bon Jovi thing, especially considering the constant stream of snark otherwise exiting my mouth.
