My son is racing in the SRAA National Championships today (assuming they move out of their heat tomorrow too) in beautiful Camden, NJ.

His race is in a few minutes. Freshman 8 Heat 3....Need a 3rd or better to advance...So F' Manhasset, Walt Whitman, New Trier, and Pine Crest.

Manhasset's boat hit/almost hit a bunch of geese....freaked out a bunch of the rowers..that slowed them down. Looks like the good guys advance to the semis.

No shot at NJ. the Copper River looks beautiful from the stream (wife got this trip). The race coordinator scared all of the parents and kids about safety at the event. Apparently car breakins and stuff stolen from race tents/trailers are common at events here.

Tomorrow they need at top 3 to go to the finals. F' Chaminade (Long Island), Wakefield (VA), Canisius, Pine Crest, and Winter Park

Daughter and her team really turning it around so far at their tournament. Game 1 they went down early on a goal very much against the run of play. My daughter scored early in the second half, can’t wait to see the video on this one. Coach yelled at her earlier for crossing instead of going solo, so she dribbled through 3 defenders and ripped one far corner over the goalie from the side of the box. No subs and they held on 1-1.

Won the second game 8-0. The other team wasn’t bad, but our girls came out to play. Ball movement and hustle were incredible. 2 goals and 4 assists. Left footed one-timer clipped the underside of the bar and went in. First goal was sweet. 2 on 2, my daughter beat her defender and slowed a bit to let the other defender come to her, then slotted a ball to her teammate. Goalie came out and the girl hit a little chip over the sliding keeper. Almost looked like a hockey play.

I’m just happy for the girls. As I mentioned in the Tammany thread, they’ve had a rough couple of weeks. And we thought we’d have one sub tomorrow, but she’s sick and not coming.

Spending an extra night in PA as the girls won their group with a 4-0 win. Incredibly tough physical battle in the semifinals. 4-2, but we scored a fluke goal on the final kick of the game. Could have gone either way. The girl has 5 goals and 7 assists in 4 games. Scored in all 4.

Final tomorrow against the younger team at her old club. They have an incredible at that age group. Her old team was here but got knocked out. They have the same coach she played for last year, and she is really embarrassed seeing him. We left on good terms, I told the coach we were leaving before tryouts. Major uncertainty in the club due to buying another club and tryouts a month after most clubs, we took the safe route and an offer on the current team. It’s a business and kids move all the time, but I get her feeling uncomfortable. Coach wrote a really nice note when I told him she accepted another offer. She is also worried about losing to the younger team.

ETA: kind of sucks to spend another night in a hotel when the team we play has their home field 10 minutes from ours. Team we beat in the semis is about 15 minutes away. 4 brackets in our flight, one NJ team in each bracket, and NJ won all four brackets.

Waited until game 5 to crap the bed. Actually, I can't say that, they played hard, just gassed. Hot as fuck on the field, other team had 6 subs to our 1. Completely dominated, just couldn't score. Went to overtime 0-0. Our goalie only had a few easy saves and our D was gassed, so the coach put the goalie in the field to start OT and put in a players twin sister who is joining the club next year with a lower team. Girl played travel goalie in the past, but hasn't played in a year. Our usual goalie was too slow in the field, couldn't keep up with her forward and they scored off a cross. I feel horrible for the girl who went into goal. Nothing she could have done at all, but she sat on the bench watching and got thrown into OT of a tournament final and gave up the only goal within 2 minutes. Her sister is the unofficial team captain and tough as fuck on everyone (in a good captainy way), I hope she was supportive on the car ride home.

Wasn't a fan of the coaches speech as he handed out the second place medals. "I know it's hot and we didn't have numbers, but that just wasn't good enough. That team is younger than you and you let them beat you. You beat better teams than them this weekend and there is no excuse for it." Then he walked off.

In fairness, he had a brutal weekend. He coached two teams in this tournament, and the fields were 45 minutes apart. He showed up 5 minutes before most games so the girls warmed themselves up and he texted the lineup to a parent. He showed up 15 minutes after kickoff for one of our games, and completely missed a game for his other team when we had a 60 minute lightening delay. Then he played in a game 2+ hours away that night for his semi-pro team, and had to leave at 5:30 am to make our game this morning.

Also, kind of funny, a lot of co-workers ask me, "Are you taking parental leave?". And when I say no, they are shocked and almost outraged. And then I push them over the line by saying that raising kids is a women's job, why the heck would I take leave?

I will take 3 months parental leave when the babies come home, but that's none of their business.
Fantastic news.

My only advice to you is to be the most patient you have ever been during those three months.

Sophia (the top picture) is now 1170.

And this is after they lost weight (shed water) the first few days.

I AM a proud parent.

But since there isn't a thread entitled "Bemused Parental Head Shaking Thread," this will go here.

My car started to smell bad last weekend. By Tuesday this week it was horrible. Since I drive my dog to the park daily and she loves to swim in the creek and pond which aren't exactly pristine, figured that it must have been because of her. So changed the sheet that covers the back seats. Smell got worse and worse, so I figured the upholstery had become soaked with dirty creek water and I'd have to clean it.

Which is what I was doing this afternoon when I discovered a sealed styrofoam take out container that had somehow become wedged under the passenger seat. The stench from this thing was horrible, so like a true idiot, I took off the top and saw 10 day old potato salad. And the aroma was almost visible. Dead raccoon in a cottage wall... dog after rolling in human shit... can't think of anything else that is on the same level.

Got there because my son and his friends went to a car rally race and campout. On the way home they stopped for food and one of them barely touched his potato salad. So he put it on the floor and must have nudged it under the seat.

No hardware for the kid but she did PR in both the 800 and 1600 and qualified on time for the meet of champions (state finals) in the former.

So we got that next Saturday and her 800 time even prior to this week qualified her for Nationals so we’re spending Father’s Day in Philly next Sunday. Someone got a rec on a good lunch near Franklin Field?

so i got this straight

nationals is next sunday at philly? kid had no idea just that we had to decide if to go...
their 4x8 team finished first in the group - but they are unlikely to repeat that time today as their anchor is going to meet of champs or nationals to run the 800.. and 4x8 is same day -- so guess the team takes a backseat

I think it’s like 16th-19th but the girls 800 happens to be Sunday so she can do both? I’m just along for the ride man, I dunno.

Don’t get why everything is stacked up. Did NJ run late? She said that she was told that NJSIAA was going to fine schools that didn’t scratch kids who aren’t planning on showing at MOC and go to nationals instead (depriving someone else of a chance to run at MOC).

ETA: I’m being told NJ is a week or two behind for some reason

I bet you know what "secondary school" means. The GA child support statutes refer to "secondary school" and no litigants seem to know what that is. Basis for lots of angst and arguing.
