Awesome. I wanted to work at the arena too but didn't get it.

Neither did I. And my mom gave me shit about it over the weekend.

Family connections and whatnot. Good work, Citgo.

In fairness, $10K in tuition won't buy you anything but a large outstanding balance on your tuition bill.HaulCitgo wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 3:45 pm Girl started at the job of my teenage dreams. Cool opportunity for your daughter though. Somehow neither of my boys have managed to get "real" jobs and I think it's a mistake.
Totally Kafkaesque

Fwiw, I think my daughter’s part-time jobs in high school really helped her mature. Particularly when she worked as a tutor for a chain company that focused on tutoring math to elementary school kids.

This is not really true at all. Sure for the bigger name schools but you can get quality education at reasonable prices. Oldest went private sure but younger cost is under 10k. Living at home first year though. 12 k on campus I believe per year.Shirley wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 11:54 amIn fairness, $10K in tuition won't buy you anything but a large outstanding balance on your tuition bill.HaulCitgo wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 3:45 pm Girl started at the job of my teenage dreams. Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
Well, I am including room & board. My youngest is at UNC, which I think is a fairly cheap public uni and it costs about $25K/year. Paid about that much for private school (not college) before that.A_B wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 12:49 pmThis is not really true at all. Yeah sticker shock awaits no doubt. x2 god willing so might need her to find a scholarship or go instate to save some cash for her brother.
Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
So my son was biking back from work last Friday (Friday morning is garbage pickup day). I was out walking the dog. He joins me and we pass a neighbors house who has a coffee table/foosball on the curb for garbage.
My son and I look at it and think that could be a fun thing to have. We give it a look and realize it needs some repair work (a bent rod or 2), maybe refinish the wood. He knocks on the neighbor's door to make sure that he could take it and spent the weekend taking apart, biking back and forth to the hardware store for parts, adjusting the table for play, etc.
The table now looks fantastic and plays wonderfully.......my son's foos skills....well that does not belong in the proud parent thread.

The real key to one on one foos is always keeping your left hand on the goalie rod. We had a table in college and my roommate slaughtered me for weeks before he finally told me.
Have at it, gents.

real tables (4 rods) is a 2 v 2 game. Should never have to take your hand off either rod. 1 x 1 on a full size table is rec-level foosball.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 7:33 am The real key to one on one foos is always keeping your left hand on the goalie rod. In college we had several tables. A few had some pretty impressive custom art work for each player. My son, daughter, and I are talking about upgrading "red vs blue" to something more proper. Maybe get Blackpool v. McLean.

Screw around on a foosball table sure, but not sure I would call it "playing". More like just knocking tennis balls around a court, hitting BP, or firing up shots at basketball "goal", than actually playing.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 10:43 amDo you not play if you don't have 4?wlu_lax6 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 9:50 amreal tables (4 rods) is a 2 v 2 game. Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
They had the same foosball table at the barber shop today. Looked nice. But mano v mano cause it's low. Like the custom team paint idea. I also liked the glass top. Would not like the spouse and kid dragging it into the home but anything for the kiddos. Not so much the spouse. I am strict when it comes to bringing big shit into the house. Old regrets if you're not careful. Dumps are involved and sneaky expensive.
Eta. Picked up the kid and he said we should invest in a foosball table. I told him maybe if someone throws it away.

My oldest daughter, who will be a senior this year, has been working as intern at the West Monroe-Seattle office.
She just got a full time job offer from team for when she graduates in the spring.

Congrats. It’s really nice when they have a good job right after graduating. I have some good friends whose kids are still looking.

That's great, Dave.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Thanks everyone. She's worked really hard at school, and all summer, so I'm glad its paying off for her. And it will be nice to have her back in Seattle after graduation.

Protocol question: Is it ok to ask my daughter how much her offer was for? I asked 'is it a good offer?' (she said yes), but didn't ask the salary. Can I?
Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
You’re her father. You’re allowed to ask. Imho.DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 1:26 pm Protocol question: Is it ok to ask my daughter how much her offer was for? I asked 'is it a good offer?' (she said yes), but didn't ask the salary. Can I?

Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
In the last week and a half my eldest has gotten his driver's license, been hired for his first job, and started in person dual enrollment classes at the local community college (in addition to his online/virtual high school stuff). Nothing earthshaking, for sure, but just a barrage of major life steps for his mother and I.

Just love reading good news for a change!
My eldest is looking for a place to spend 3 months or so in Europe this winter. His work is entirely remote, so he can definitely swing it. He's 25, and has come so far in the last 5 years or so that it is amazing.
(And FYI - rentals in Italy, Spain, Greece and Croatia are ridiculously cheap. He's considering an entire small house in a gorgeous town north of Valencia. Fully equipped, 2 bedrooms, $1,100 Canadian a month)

The Valencia house sounds amazing. Much better to be there in winter than summer. Be prepared for him to come back and complain about Victor Lim all the time.Pruitt3 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 12:30 pm Just love reading good news for a change!
