I ended up going to a rock and roll barber sort of place downtown. Sort of biker decor, with 80s/90s rock blaring. The barber next to the woman who cut my hair carried on a relatively one-sided theological discussion with her as she worked on me. It was mostly a recount of another theological discussion he had with someone, perhaps a Jewish someone, about Jesus' sonofgodliness. He felt he had won their exchange by pointing out that other religions consider Jesus a prophet, and if Jesus wasn't Devine then why was he the only prophet without an Earthly father, and why was he the one given superpowers in Revelations? Just as he was wrapping up with some talk of how Satan works to keep Christians and Muslims from loving each other, Motley Crue's "Shout at the Devil" came on the radio. I smiled.

My hair looks better than it does when I do it.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

Well, Joe Egan was there too, in the duo known as Stealers' Wheel, when they recorded that Dylanesque pop bubble-gum favorite from April of 1974, that reached up to #5, as K-Billy's Super Sounds of the 70s continues…

He was there, but I'm now thinking of Rafferty's career when I hear that song.

The word 'shrapnel' comes from a dude's name. Lieutenant Henry Shrapnel of the UK Royal Artillery, in 1793 took a hollowed-out cannonball, filled it with lead shot and powder, such that it would explode in mid-air. He refined the design over the years, as he rose to the rank of Major General.

I figured it was a yiddish word.

Keeping this out of the Television thread to avoid spoilers: I'm planning on binge-watching True Detective over the next 2-3 days. Do I need to more or less avoid the internet over that time to avoid having it spoiled?

So, I have tickets/reservations for Puerto Vallarta next weekend for my buddies bachelor party. But he got caught fooling around and now his fiance has called off the wedding. My buddy is nowhere to be found, he hasn't gone to work for a few days and won't answer his phone.

Hopefully he just wants to be by himself for a little while, which seems kinda natural. You know him better than anyone -- do you have any reason to think he's capable of doing anything to hurt himself (I realize anyone is capable of anything, but let's be honest here -- there's some people you know who are more apt to do something rash than others).

If the answer is yes, I'd send him a voicemail and text telling him you've moved beyond worrying about him and might have to get the police involved with a missing person's report. If he's underground that should bring him back up temporarily. If he doesn't respond, follow through.

ETA: If it has been several days with no response, actually I'd probably do that regardless of what you think he's capable of. But I'd send the voicemail and text and say in each that if he doesn't respond you'll file a report later today.

We know he is alive because he has been posting wacko stuff on FB. But he won't respond to any of us trying to reach out to him, which like you guys said, is understandable since all of this just went down this weekend.

He is AWOL from work, hasn't called or talked to anyone from there. We know this because his fiance is a nurse at the hospital he works at. So not only do his family and friends know how big of a dickwad he is, but so do all of his co-workers.

What would you guys do regarding the bachelor party? If you were him would you cancel, or go and party your brains out? All 12 of us bought our plane tickets on our own, but he was hooking it up with the resort reservations and none of us have the reservation info.

Well if I were HIM I don't know what I'd do, but if I were you guys I'd definitely go down there and party my brains out. If he keeps flaking out, you guys might want to look into making some refundable reservations somewhere on your own just in case.

We're giving him one more day to respond, if we don't hear from him we're going to huddle up and figure out Plan B.

Brian, I will be in Vegas for March Madness again this year. I was planning on cutting the bachelor party short to fly to Vegas on Wednesday. If the trip to PV falls (ie if everyone decides to just lose the airfare rather than spend another $1k), I'll just make the drive up. I'll give you a holler to see if/when you can meet up.

You should all go down and designate one of the married guys to pose as the bachelor. Give a married guy one more weekend of glory! [not projecting. OK, maybe a little bit]

The more I go through life the more I realize how selfish people are.

Some background: A new LRT line opened near my house on Jan 1, 2013. It's great cause now it cuts at least 15 minutes each way on my commute. Of course at first people complained it was a waste of money and instead of one bus going downtown they now had to TRANSFER from a bus to the LRT. These people must have more free time since they don't mind spending an extra 15 minutes each way as long as they don't TRANSFER. To transfer you have to walk about 100 yards from terminal to bus stop.. whoopdie-doo. People have free time, or so I thought.

Coming home, my bus (453) leaves the terminal during rush hour at :05, :20, :35 and :50. After 6:05 it's just :05 and :35. When the line just started there was always one parked there, when I got off the train I would just hop on. But then the bus started to park there to long, drivers would either go to the washroom and or have a smoke. I always catch the 5:35 one... but it would be parked there long.. 5:37, 5:38, OMG 5:40.. bus driver is still dicking around. But I'm already sitting on the bus and I'm just going home, what do I care? And in the event that I caught a late train and arrived at say 5:37 I might make a run for it and the bus would still be there and the driver would let me on instead of having to wait til 5:50. But sitting on the bus you can hear the mummers, people were upset, the bus wasn't leaving on time, they needed to get home. I remember the faces of those who complained, heck I'm on a bus I got nothing better to do. and then at maybe 5:40 the bus would start to leave then the driver catches people coming out of the terminal and would stop to let more people on... this pissed more people off. I'm like just shut up, the bus is here all the time, we'll get home whenever.

So starting in 2014 they cut down on busses but the bus times are still the same, every 15 minutes. I talked to one of the drivers and he says even in good conditions now he has to floor it. If it's icy conditions, forget it. In the morning I get on the bus, before I could even show my bus pass the bus is moving. I've seen so many people actually fall over cause they haven't sat down yet. Driver no longer gives a shit. Coming home now the bus is never at the terminal and it's -30. So we gotta wait in the cold instead of sitting on a warm bus. And the bus now waits for nobody, it gets there right at 5:35 and before I can even sit down, it's gone. I've seen so many people wipe out on the slick ice trying to run for the bus. Some of them were the complainers I heard before, fell right on their asses, good on them. The driver sees people coming out of the terminal, he no longer gives a shit. Some kid yesterday got to the door and pounded on it. Driver just kept going nearly ran him over.

I don't care either way, now I just stand inside the terminal play on my phone until the next bus comes, I never run for it like I used to. At 5:33 I just start walking that 100 yards. If I'm late I wait for 5:50 bus. And those complainers, I hope they're now 15 minutes late instead of 3 and they fall down and go boom every time.
