Lucky me I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon to go see my parents in Colorado Springs.
Fucking insane. 110 in Grants Pass, 120 in Kamloops?

We had 107 here last week, I thought I was going to die. There's a reason I won't live in Phoenix or Vegas.

My buddy picked this week to visit his dad in Portland.

At least in Phoenix or Vegas places have air-conditioning. Very few homes in Seattle have AC.

Going to be a heat wave here next week. Calgary had never reached 100 F. It's predicted to go over on Wednesday.

Tampa's never hit 100 either.

Yes, I think we discussed this before when Calgary came close a few years ago hitting its current record of 36.8C or 98.2F

No, I had forgotten and it will amaze me no matter how many times you say it.

Also how is Seattle reaching 44C but Vancouver only 34C. They're not that far apart, 150 miles?

Kamloops is in the valley interior Bc, they're going to get killed.

Yeah, it's amazing when you think that places in the tropics get incredibly hot and humid, but don't rise up above the high 80s (for the most part.)

It's going to be 120 fuckin' degrees there. 120! We stopped there a few years ago to eat at a Swiss Chalet (you Canadians lose your minds over bland chicken) and I had noted that it was the Phoenix of Canada, but this is crazy.

Regarding Seattle and Vancouver though, I guess the Pacific just has crazy microclimates. LA and San Diego are even closer and have wildly different climes.

Swiss Chalet is stuck in the 90s. Nobody under 40 goes there unless with parents or grandparents as a nostalgia thing.

10 minute walk to the store and back and I am drenched. I honestly don't know how people in Phoenix and Vegas deal with this shit for three months straight. And this is just an 88 degree dry heat today.

There’s a 17 percent chance that Portland ties Las Vegas’ all-time record (117F) tomorrow.

Under a “yellow” hurricane warning right now. Should know in the next four hours how bad it’s gonna be. If Enrique tracks east could get 18 inches of rain, mudslides, maybe weeks without power. Good times.

Day 4. Lytton is literally on fire. No more records or fun and games. It's now serious.

I just can't get over this. I get obviously that the heat and the fire go together, but this tiny village becomes known nationally and then literally burns down the next day. Bonkers (and tragic). Mayor says he expects no buildings to survive, and doubts all residents could have evacuated in time.

So Calgary got spared somewhat. Never reached 100, never even broke the all-time record. At the end of this, 3 of the hottest 5 days ever in Calgary will be during this heat wave, but not the hottest.

Sounds like very little damage in Tampa. There's certainly nothing amiss at my house, and I slept through it.

Not seeing any reports of that either. It sounds like areas south of Sarasota took most of the force out of it.

Fucking windy as shit around here last evening. Branches down everywhere, and a chunk of the facade of a building up the street just blew off. Some heavy foam shit that could have done some serious damage had a car or person been where it landed.

Yup, we got caught out walking the dog because it came in a little earlier than the forecast expected. After the whole "massive branch that took half a swingset clean off" incident last year, I'm a bit shook being outdoors in any serious wind.

I was trying to scarf down leftovers before soccer practice got shut down early but things got so bad so quickly that when I glanced out the back window about 10 minutes after coming home from dropping her off I turned off the microwave and immediately grabbed my keys and drove back to the field.

Not really a concern with a storm like this, fortunately.

Fast moving + relatively small = not much flooding even if it hits are high tide.
