I should have been clearer haha -- yeah Pen's been with me since 2015

after we said to each other "the animals are now 10 (cat), 9 (cat) and 8 (dog)" on Sunday, our getting a second dog discussions went from "we want to do it sometime" to "yeah it's time" and here we are

Our cat brought home a new kitten a couple of weeks ago. Total fucking scatterbrain. Giving it to the oldest when they go back to Boston next month.

When I got my dog snipped, our vet had given us a body ‘sleeve’ for him to wear until the stitches dissolved. Damn he hated that thing. He would feel all out of sorts when out for a walk in that thing, hugging the physical structures (rowhouses) as we would walk down the sidewalk. I wound up taking it off him and utilized the cone of shame I still had from our previous dog. He didn’t give a crap about it - or rather, I suppose he thought it was a massive improvement over the body condom.

I wish more vets had the soft cones...they are so much easier on the dogs and the owners. I'm guessing they don't because they probably cost more but it's almost worth buying one just have for future use.

I think we're going to buy one because he hates this one so much -- I've put it on him for crate time, but left it off when he's around the house with me.

Spence spent the first night in the cone laying on his side trying to paw at it until he finally got leverage and snapped it in half.

we have two hickory trees in the back yard and he has picked up a hickory nut every single time he's gone outside to pee or poop today. I think he knows what happened.

My 6 year old beast became terrified of fireworks within the last 18 months.

Like shaking, hiding, panting and drooling afraid.

Any of you have a similar problem (with your dog I mean)? And have you found anything that keeps them calm?

Pen had a similar transition at a similar age with fireworks and thunder. she just goes and tries to hide in the basement and is super clingy. sometimes shakes a little bit.

we've done those CBD chews and they take the edge off. she's still scared, however. we're probably going to try the thundervest this year because I don't want her fear rubbing off on stout.

We have a Thundervest for Clover. It works pretty well. She still gets very timid and tries to hide under the couch or bed.

Our old dog is very frightened by thunder, fireworks, even rain. When she gets scared, she’ll even try to hide in the cat’s litter box.

We use a thundershirt/vest for our dog (he too has issues with fireworks, thunder, marching bands parading down the neighborhood, earth-moving machines, etc).

It works. Also CBD treats seem to take the edge off a bit, too.

Mutt has been especially smelly lately and my wife thought he was pissing himself at night but after careful examination of the stains on his bedding, I think it's anal leakage so now he's got his first-ever appointment to have his glands expressed. Yay.

Gonna spare you all the bulk of the details, but the descriptor "unusually creamy" was used by the vet, and she said he must be relieved because he pooped 5 or 6 times AFTER the procedure.

He's home and doing fine.

Good to hear, Rass.

So, everybody, the lesson here is to get the vet tech to express the anal glands when the pup gets a checkup.

No, but my sister put her cat on Prozac about a week ago. She got a dog, and her cats aren't happy about it. One started gnawing on her own tail. Shame, as the dog seems pretty cool with the cats, calmly interested, but they just hide.

The MFer has no off switch in a way the behavioral trainer says past experience more often than not is atleast partly chemical so we’re giving it a try. Would be nice to “relax” at home.
