Just checked it out. Definitely agree. Forever Chords is an incredible song.

Do you get the impression he’s got some MGMT in him where he can make wildly accessible and popular music but it’s not the music he likes to make?

I don’t always jump on the latest hip hop stuff, but I listened to the new Quelle Chris the other day and it’s excellent.

Sirius/XM channel 30 is playing the top 500 songs of the 80s (in order, based on Billboard charting) on Channel 30 for the rest of the weekend. Countdown should be about to start over at #500 around 3:30 p.m. ET.

This still applies. I'd love an exercise where fans were given Total Life Forever as a leaked new Coldplay album and asked to opine.

She really does. I'd never heard of her before SNL, but she has a fantastic voice.

I still subscribe, but damn they pissed me off when they booted The Loft from their car radio format.

Spectrum is LCD garbage. XMU is being made to carry the load and that sucks.

It's there in their streaming format (apps, website, etc). So I can still listen to it, but they did not replace that station with anything remotely comparable.

Yeah, it is unique. We have Sirius/XM in my wife's car, so if I'm driving it, I lean to Underground Garage, Outlaw Country, XMU, or Deep Tracks. If I'm feeling lazy and just want comfortable stuff I already know, I listen to one of the classic rock stations or the 80's new wave station.

Simon & Garfunkel, PJ Harvey, Phosphorent, Stephen Malkmus, & The Lovin' Spoonful have been featured in the past hour or so.

The Loft was basically your local public radio station's DNA merged with college radio. They took it away to make room for horse crap generic band dedications. Muh.

So, 14 hours in a car with a college freshman* in charge of the Aux introduced me to a lot of new music. I'd heard some Childish Gambino and Janelle Monae before, but listening to extended playlists of them was good. Really liked both of them. Same for Kendrick Lamar. Didn't care for Lil Wayne as much. Only overlap in taste was Kacey Muscgraves, whom I liked before daughter knew she existed probably.

But the one that I absolutely loved and had no idea existed was Lizzo. That is some fun stuff, and she can sing and rap in equal measures. Really really enjoyed her stuff.

EDIT: *-Excuse me...college SOPHOMORE.

Agreed on Lizzo. I haven't listened to it too much yet, but really did enjoy the first two run-thrus of it.

Yeah - when I was a teenager and into my mid-20s, I listened to a lot of stuff that would break my brain if I put it on now.

I mean, I listened to "Ummagumma" many times.

Sirius XMU is doing one of those top 500 countdowns this weekend. I used to love listening to those on old fashioned classic rock radio back in the day, even if everyone knew it was going to end up with Stairway to Heaven.

It’s not clear what the criteria are here but I guess it’s anything that you might have ever heard on the station going back to the beginning. They just played a Pavement song so I guess they consider the 90’s to be part of the era. So I thought of 2 questions which I’ll pose to the group:

1) When does “indie” actually begin as an era?
2) What is the #1 here? Is there a Stairway in indie rock yet? I’ve been thinking about it for about 20 minutes and my guess is Seven Nation Army. It’s the most iconic non-hip hop, non-pop song of the century, if only because every soccer team in the world uses it.
