Simmons has sure gone downhill. Back in the aughts, most of us liked The Sports Guy.

On a separate issue, kind of amazing that Steve Kerr has NINE nba championship rings.

yes because 3 is greater than 2

That would require you to have a rooting interest in the outcome unlike 30 of 32 fan bases watching the finals. What if you're watching nets kings in January?

This video is a great look at the changes in offense and defense over the history of the NBA. I know it's 30 min (I watched in a few chunks), but it's totally worth it.

That's an insanely good video. I think the 1985 and 1998 games were the most jarring to watch, especially if you experienced it live. I mean, Kurt Rambis taking 18-footers on a team with Magic and Kareem and living to tell about it. Or running an offense designed to draw illegal defense calls.

I'd say more like preventing help on Malone but yes good video. And illegal defense has to be the worst creation in history of hoops.

I thought the 1977 game was actually pretty interesting to watch, though the individual brilliance of Walton and Dr. J may have had something to do with that. It was shocking to see the 80’s Lakers and Celtics play a style that resembled my law school intramural league.

It was wild to watch all of the changes, but then to see how different the 2022 finals looked. There's nobody in the paint at all! It's wild how much the game has changed. It was also shocking to see Bird just passing up wide-open threes.

It seems like a pretty deep draft though. As a Rockets fan, very happy we're guaranteed one of the top three though. I like who they're mocked to take so I hope they don't do something stupid and trade up.

Seeing some of the names that went late first round...it feels like NIL really impacted that part of the draft. Good on the Knicks for dumping all of their assets rather than participate.

Reading the comments from the Defector piece on the NBA draft made me giggle at some of the people that Adam Silver is said to resemble:

Nosferatu
Dean Craig Pelton
Wigless Kellyanne Conway
Gollem in a nice suit
Megamind
Anorexic Dr. Evil
The Baron from What We Do in the Shadows
A giant egghead
Cadaverous American Gothic
Bald Kathy Griffin...

Good thing he’s not likely to go back to Golden State. The Swamp would really lose its shit.

And Windhorst said Kyrie is probably out now too.

Anyhoo, I forgot about this:

Edit:

In 1969, my dad had a house built on a mountain on the outskirts of Glastonbury, CT for a total of $45,000. In 1985 he sold it for $500,000.

Different times.

I'm not "Mister NBA", but five (5) firsts for a 30 year old interior big on $40MM+ per year seems ... terrible?

It does but for that team to get him it probably does make them better for a couple of years. Decent core there unless I missed someone leaving.

I feel like they've decided "our defense was terrible, so we're going to get a guy who can theoretically patch that up while still allowing our offensive stars (Towns, Edwards, Russell) to do what they do and we'll just fill in around the edges".

They got to the playoffs this past season after doing it once in 17 seasons, so this is a swing at doing it again (and maybe winning a round or two) for several more seasons. They're the Timberwolves, they may as well.

Celtics killing it. Brogdon fits and gallinari is tall and can shoot it. They added those guys and White for nothing. Pritchard and grant Williams is a full bench out of thin air.
