By first beer, do you mean first beer of the evening, or predecessor of a style, that is now outclassed by the young guns? Or something else.

Former. First IPA of the evening.

Singlecut and CBC now shipping to NJ. That's VVG and good, respectively.

CBC? Do you mean Cigar City Brewing, or am I missing something? Picked up a bottle of Singlecut earlier this week. I've had a couple of IPAs from them, really good stuff.

I'm no expert on these things, but I do know that Fremont isn't even close to the best brewery in Seattle. And I love their stuff.

Interesting. I drank Singlecut's "Does Anybody Remember Laughter?" IPA last night. Despite the ridiculously stupid name, it was damned good. Strong grapefruit up front, with piney undertones.

No Great Lakes Brewing Co. either, which is a huge oversight.

Exactly. I can think of a few places in Bend (10 Barrel, Boneyard, Crux, Good Life) that aren't even Deschutes that should make the cut.

Oddly enough 10 Barrel was sponsoring a ski event at my local slope (in CO) last weekend. InBev be pushing the brand.

10 Barrel is a supporter of KEXP (as is Lagunitas). Always seems odd to have out-of-state breweries doing sponser id's on a Seattle radio station.

10 Barrel is also doing a beer garden tomorrow, outside of the new KEXP studio, before the Radiohead concert.

Ah, I'll let it slide. Zeppelin. Robert Plant made an idiotic ad-lib in a concert that was recorded for the concert movie The Song Remains the Same. According to the Googles, he was embarrassed and asked for the line to be edited out.

Hey, Sybian. I spent a chunk of Saturday afternoon at Alpha Acid drinking pints. Had a 650 IPA in your honor. Tasty!

CCB just canned Oatmeal Raisin Cookie. Tastes exactly like an oatmeal raisin cookie. They also just canned Guayabera Citra Pale Ale. It's a nice halfway point between a Pale Ale and an IPA.

Awesome! What else did you try? I'd love to try the barleywine, not sure red wine would work, which really makes me want to try it. The Funkdafied IPA would be a must try, hell the stout too.

That zeppelin/singlecut thing is even better because I'm pretty sure singlecut's owner is older (than me) so it works as a cool dad joke.

Pretty glad I don't live in Indiana, you guys.

(Granted most cold beers sold in a gas station are probably going to be macrobrews, but seriously. WTF? I love how the lawmakers admit that the liquor store lobby basically bought them off.)

This has been a battle for many years. Grocery stores were pushing hard to sell cold beer for a long time. Always shot down, because there is so much money to be made off of the liquor store license as stated in the article.

And don't forget, can't buy alcohol on Sundays except if you are eating at a restaurant (or sitting at a bar). Good ole blue laws. At least we don't sell near beer at the grocery (just have to purchase it warm).

Trying Long Trail for the first time. Wife met a girl at her conference who is obsessed with it and had to find some since she doesn't get it in Kansas City. Currently drinking the Green Blaze IPA (I wish I was blazing something green right now) and have a sampler to take home.

Also, the liquor stores here are awesome.

So I think Long Trail sucks but I've also heard from people I trust some of the newer stuff is nothing like the old stuff. Haven't given it a shot again yet.

I haven't had anything from Long Trail in many years, but I used to really like Double Bag. Curious to see what I'd think of it now. I've seen a bunch of new beers from Long Trail, but haven't tried any. I'll have to give them another try. We just keep getting more breweries entering the market lately, and the local breweries are ramping up production, so there's too damned much I need to buy.

Long Trail has upped their game to keep a piece of the VT pie. They've got a good pilot program and restarted the "brown bag" one off series and have done some good stuff.

Any of you Michigan motherfuckers hear of M43 from Old Nation? Reviews are pretty great and I'll be in Grand Rapids in a few weeks. Any other MI stuff to actively seek out?

Assume you've had Perrin before, but that's one of my west Michigan favorites.

I can't boycott High Westified. Better than KBS, $12/sixer, and much easier to find. Well, you are boycotting Founders, too, but you get my point.

Just the 10 or so I murdered on Friday before getting to airport. Almost ended up with me being the star of Southwest Airline's own viral video!

When your favorite NHL team plays (and wins!) four rounds in the Stanley Cup playoffs you might build up a collection of beers you deem unlucky after the result on a night of drinking doesn't go the way you prefer.

First up in my beer fridge purge:

SweetWater 420 Extra Pale Ale

Purchased: Cleveland Park (DC) Walgreens, mid-April during the first round

Reason for not finishing: only drank one in DC, the series ended the next game after I got back from my trip. The next opponent was the Caps and drinking a beer bought in DC during that series didn't seem right...
