Re: Presidential Election 2024
That is Andrew Schultz. He also has (had?) a podcast with Charlamagne that God called Brilliant Idiots. And you know he is as anti Trump as they come. So Schultz may play a douchey know it all frat bro, and you'd be right, but he's not on Rogan's level at all.
Call Her Daddy started at Barstool and then Sofia Franklyn and Alexandra Cooper had a massive falling out and Cooper retained the rights. Then she kept the podcast after her time at Barstool was up and got paid serious, serious money at Spotify. It's a very woman positive/woman empowerment driven entity that, yes, involves lots of sexual stories and situations. So if you hadn't heard of it you're not the demographic.

Ok, I remember someone posted about this here when they had the falling out. So Barstool had a woman-positive podcast? I thought they were like the pinnacle of douchey frat bro culture.Johnnie wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2024 5:13 pm That is Andrew Schultz. My understanding is that CHD started out as the female version of the frat-bro/douche bag podcast, but since they moved to Spotify, that part has been toned down. The Sybian wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2024 6:35 pmOk, I remember someone posted about this here when they had the falling out. Yea, I should probably clarify. It's women empowerment by way of the notion that "Oh, men can be powerful by fucking hoes? Well, women that want to be hoes are just as powerful."

I've been having the same issue with my phone the past week or two. I get a message that I need to login in to prove I'm not a bot. If I click on the video to login, it brings me to a different video. Works fine from a computer.

Here's the write-up about his lock-up from the Post: Trump sways and bops to music for 39 minutes in bizarre town hall episode
And how about this amount of gaslighting:
You gotta be fucking kidding me...“Total lovefest at the PA townhall! Everyone was so excited they were fainting so @realDonaldTrump turned to music,” campaign spokesman Steven Cheung wrote on X. “Nobody wanted to leave and wanted to hear more songs from the famous DJT Spotify playlist!”

I record ABC Nightly News. I will say this, every time Trump says something they can refute, they do it. And they were all over Kamala's speech this weekend where she questioned his mental faculties.

Re: Presidential Election 2024
One would think so...but...from the NY Times:
Trump Bobs His Head to Music for 30 Minutes in Odd Town Hall Detour
"Improvisational Departures"?????Donald J. Trump was about 30 minutes into a town hall Monday night in suburban Philadelphia when a medical emergency in the crowd brought the questions and answers to a halt. Moments later, he tried to get back on track, when another medical incident seemed to derail things, this time for good.
And so Mr. Trump, a political candidate known for improvisational departures, made a detour. Rather than try to restart the political program, he seemed to decide in the moment that it would be more enjoyable for all concerned — and, it appeared, for himself — to just listen to music instead.

Re: Presidential Election 2024
Great blog post from the Rude Pundit explaining why folks need to vote for Harris even if you hate her position on Gaza.
https://rudepundit.blogspot.com/2024/10 ... oting.html
https://rudepundit.blogspot.com/2024/10 ... oting.html
If I vote for Harris, I accept that I am probably not doing anything to unfuck the current situation in the Middle East. But I also accept that I am doing something to unfuck so many other things and preventing many more from becoming fucked (or further fucked). I know that if Harris isn't elected, the parade of what's fucked will be grotesque and long, from the suffering of women over abortion restrictions to the suffering of families over mass deportation and threatened denaturalization to the suffering of everyone over the reversal of policies trying to mitigate climate change to the suffering of children in this country over the mad proliferation of guns. I know that rights will be taken away from queer and trans kids and adults. I know that Ukraine will be handed over to Russia and that an emboldened Putin is gonna fuck things up a great deal more. I know that people all over the world will be harmed by the United States moving into an isolationist and racist posture, with the potential for more wars. I know that free speech rights will be trampled by right-wing courts, workers' rights will be crushed by the elimination of regulations, and civil rights will be beaten and shot by the police. And the Supreme Court will be lost for the next generation, at least. That's just scratching the surface of fuckery that Trump and his more effective MAGA apparatchiks are planning to do, along with a huge helping of Christian nationalism.

"Un-fucking what you can" is like the polar opposite of new. Its the same "sure we're equally bad as them on a lot of the same things, but what about these other things we aren't" and its cover for never having to do better at the rest which, shockingly, always seem to benefit the same groups.

Yes, having the Dems in power will be a lot better for the millions of non-Palestinian and Lebanese minorities in the US. As well as tens of millions of other people in the US and around the world. Re: Presidential Election 2024
"Sorry, you have to vote for them or its your fault" is condescending as shit and comes from a place of knowing one's own belief system or morally is protected by the two party system. The writer assumes if its not a dealbreaker for them, it isn't acceptable for it to be a dealbreaker for anyone else. Yes, the Dems are obviously better than Republicans on a whole myriad of issues. Go find that Palestinian or Lebanese neighbor and let them know its Blue No Matter Who once again and they better be willing to accept responsibility if they don't.
(And like I've said before ad nauseum, all of these same people have dealbreakers, just ones they'll never admit to. And since they get to write the narrative, they don't have to.)

Who on earth among his handlers thought him taking questions at the Econ Club of Chicago was a good idea? Just from the couple of clips already up, he's just flat being petulant and knowingly saying wrong things that are easily disproven.

I guess I have to admit that the "I'm smarter than everyone" isn't part of his usual act so much as he actually really believes that. At first I wrote it off as bluster and huckstering but it just has to be a fundamental part of his being.
This despite the fact that even the very best polymaths in history not only didn't know everything but went to great lengths to stress just that. You can't be a polymath without intellectual curiosity, and I don't think Trump is up late reading the classics of philosophy or Euclid's Elements just for giggles.

Here's the thing about Trump. Back when he was coming up, in the 80s and early part of the 90s... He thought he was the smartest guy in the room, and quite often, he was at least the most clever and/or sharp.A_B wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 3:00 pmI think she was always doing plenty.degenerasian wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 2:52 pmTrump and Vance's strategy is to do a lot of media, good or bad. Yes, a lot of that was directed at developing his various real estate grifts and tax evasion plots... But he was pretty damn smart.
His issue is that he's old as fuck and over the last 15 years, he still has the bluster of his 30s and 40s but he has zero actual edge anymore. Now he's just a lazy bully.

If you look at interviews with him from back then, the difference in his overall demeanor and ability to answer questions is night and day.
But, you're probably right that I'm grading him on a ridiculous curve at this juncture. (points up thread to him dancing to music for 37 minutes.)

Sorry if this has been said, but wasn't Trump (on some songs) asking for music to be played that we all know the artists have asked not to be played st his rallies.
I think I have read that Sinead O'Conner, the village people, the cranberries and U2 to name a few (he is obviously not a fan of the arts in Irelans) have insisted in the past that he does not use their music. Is there anywsy he is trying to show that he will do what he wants and not be told by musicans what to do (even if this is in his head, in his head...).
