Oh man, he was a regular guest on the radio show a friend hosts in Vegas. Really nice guy I guess.

Man, there was nothing like those years. Waking up on Sunday mornings knowing that the Giants could play like Super Bowl contenders or complete dogshit or anything in between.
He was the Utah coach when I was an undergrad. The Utes were the picture of mediocrity.

Billy Fucillo, who may or may not have had the Fort Myers Out of the Park baseball team's stadium named after him after the 2018 season.

I’m kind of surprised I beat Max to this...
René Robert. Winger on the Buffalo Sabres’ famed “French Connection” line (with Gilbert Perreault and Richard Martin). Everybody remembers him as a Sabre, but I would point out he was also a damned good player for the old Colorado Rockies later in his career.

thanks SC. if it were MY board there'd be a full thread on him. :)
This is a tough one to be sure - hard to convey the impact he had on this area for me/us growing up, I was only 10 when he was traded but remember it vividly - it sucked (even though it turned out to be a good trade!).
That line was as good as you read about.
Robert scored the OT winner in the famous Fog Game, 1975 SC Finals game 3 - which was also my first-ever live game at the ripe old age of 5 :D (thanks Dad!)

Back in the day it was unbelievable that the Sabres made the finals in their 5th season.
ya, hiring Punch Imlach* as GM from the start of the franchise was the key. Their first like 3 drafts were ridiculous. Then a few key trades and they became one of the 3 or 4 best teams of the late 70s. Just couldn't win the big one, alas.
*one of my favourite Punch anecdotes was when the franchise was granted and he was helping with everything, he helped finalize the uniform/team colours. He was infamously fired from the Leafs and was pretty damn bitter about that, so he wanted the Sabres to replicate the Blue and White of the Leafs but added gold to give "a touch of class" which the Leafs "didn't have" :)

That was an incredibly well run team.

People just have no idea - Harold Ballard has to be the worst owner in major sports history.

Ted Septien says hi.
And Donald Sterling says "stop hanging out with Magic Johnson."
Did anyone read the old Robert Irsay article from sports illustrated?
Read it? I lived through it. First time I ever heard my dad use the term "motherfucker" was to describe Bob Irsay. As in "Look at that drunk motherfucker, he can't even figure out how to get through the door". If you've never watched "The Band That Wouldn't Die" on 30 for 30, check it out. The TV broadcast that brought that word out of my father is shown.

Damn. Lot of rappers dying lately and Ted Nugent is still breathing and if that ain’t proof of systemic racism, then I don’t know what is.
What was his best movie, Superman, Goonies, Lethal Weapon, or should I dig deeper?

I was pretty close to giving him his own thread yesterday afternoon. Maybe if he hadn't died on a day when I wasn't working.

That was Richard Lester (I made the same mistake yesterday).

I thought Scrooged would get some love. I remember enjoying Assassins and Maverick, but it's gotta be over 20 years since I've seen either one. And I'm kinda ashamed to say I've never seen Lost Boys.
Oh, and Ryan, Donder reference was top notch.

"The Lost Boys" is waaaaaaaaaaay more Joel Schumacher than anyone else associated with the film.

I dunno, Kiefer Sutherland is right up there on this list.

Goonies was better than anything related to Lethal Weapon, with the exception of Danny Glover saying "I'm getting too old for this shit."
