So Barcelona could be (and should be) in a whole load of trouble.

Barcelona face corruption charges over payments to former referees' official

17 years of making undisclosed payments to the VP of La Liga's referees committee.

Like $9 million worth.

From the Barcelona Prosecutor's Office:
"FC Barcelona obtained and maintained a strictly confidential verbal agreement with Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira so that, in his capacity as vice-president of the technical arbitral committee (CTA) and in exchange for money, the latter carries out actions tending to benefit FC Barcelona in decisions by the referees," said the public prosecutor's office.
I know Barcelona gets treated with kid gloves - but this is bribery of referees. This should result in a massive penalty of the kind Juve suffered after "Calciopoly" which was relegation.

So no more Kangaroo leather boots. Always out of my price range, but why is this a California and Oregon issue? Is this because Roos are cuter than cows? Guess they have way more personality than that Arnold character on Green Acres.

So how would you compare this to allowing sale of venison? They way I read the article was it was legal hunting to cull the population. I recognize that deer may not be commercialized by Nike, Puma, or Adidas, but the difference does not feel that big.

I wouldn't compare it to the sale of venison. Venison's delicious.

It would appear that The Center for a Humane Economy helped create this bill.

Also, the ESPN article doesn't link the US House of Representatives bipartisan bill that appears to be the first domino to fall. Other states, like VT have also introduced bills an the state level.
Representatives Salud Carbajal (D-Calif) and Brian Fitzpatrick R-Penn) have introduced the Kangaroo Protection Act, HR 917, a bill to ban the sale of kangaroo body parts in the United States. This measure aims to curb the massive trade in kangaroo skins used by Nike, adidas, Puma and other companies for manufacturing soccer shoes (“cleats”).

Two million wild kangaroos and joeys are killed each year in their native habitats in Australia to meet this demand for athletic shoe brands. It is the largest commercial slaughter of terrestrial wildlife in the world. The United States is the second largest importer of kangaroo skin soccer shoes in the world, behind only the European Union.

There is no need to kill kangaroos for soccer cleats. The top models of soccer cleats are made from synthetic and plant-based materials, precluding the tremendous individual suffering inflicted on wild kangaroos.

I am always skeptical of organizations with names like Center for the blah de blah. I was guessing this was PETA to start. I don't have a problem with people fighting for what they believe in, but it gets a bit one-sided and the facts get blurry. As you see in your quote there is no talk about Australia's limits on the number that can be culled. I mean I am sure Roos are being hunted in native habitats but they are running amuck outside of there because of overpopulation (if you believe the Aussie argument). Roos on golf courses are some of my favorite pictures....well that and boxing roos.

And venison is gamey..but the delicious smooth feel of K-leather boots...(yeah I don't care about K-leather versus new cool tech...which is why Nike, Puma, and such are like "sure"). Probably better margins on non-hand made new models anyway (i.e. flywire Nike made shoes).

If they are anything like our deer population, it's a pain in the fucking ass when PETA folks try to put a stop to managed hunts. Deer are ALL OVER my hood and they eat all your plants/flowers/gardens and they shit all over your yard.

I know there was a time, long ago, when I'd see deer on a road trip out in the woods and get excited to spot them. Not so much now.

So, yeah, if kangaroos are anything like that...

I worry about my kid in those flywire shoes. So thin. Feels like no protection. Never read thought about which hide. I do think we are probably past the point of needing animal hides for protection while knowing that borrowing millions of years of trial and error a lot easier than r&d.

Wow. Ryan and Rob aren't fucking around. Their starting keeper went out for the season with an injury last weekend. The backup was pretty shaky in his one appearance earlier. Nip that one before it even becomes a question.

Sorry to turn this into a Wrexham thread, but new goalie signing has a pretty neat vlog. He'd been doing it for years with other squads, and Wrexham were cool with it.

I don't really feel like reading the article. The premise is kind of stupid. They are in the mode of investing and improving everything about the club. They knew this going in.

Not to mention every country with a business expense deduction strives to show tax losses every year to avoid paying tax. Not the same as actual cash losses and certainly has no bearing on asset appreciate and goodwill valuation

Does that factor in whatever FX paid for Welcome to Wrexham? I suspect that their numbers are better than those figures show. They're doing a bunch of exhibitions in the US this summer too.

First Wrexham...they knew they were going to lose money if they did not get promoted. That was the premise of some of the 1st season (specifically signing Mullins). Hey we are spending like a team that is a level or 2 up. If we don't get promoted it will be the difference between being close to break even versus losing a big chunk of money.

And the books on Wrexham the club versus the pockets of the owners can't really be judged independently. The production companies on the TV deal are not Wrexham. But the sponsorship dollars from Aviation Gin and such come out of pocket. Based on the investment success of Ryan...I think they know the numbers and how to make a profit over the long term.

Peru just lost the u-17 World Cup. Infrastructure not ready in time.
Indonesia lost it over Bali's governor refusing to host Israel.

Most of those games have been less than packed stadiums at this level. Would be interesting to see where they go and how they can get folks in person.

How corrupt do you have to be to not make requirements for a tournament with such low attendance.

Anyways, bring both tournaments to Canada. No politics here!
