Ruth Sullivan, Advocate for People With Autism, Dies at 97
Ruth Sullivan, a public health nurse who became an influential advocate for autistic children and adults after one of her sons was diagnosed with the disorder in the early 1960s, died on Sept. 16 at an assisted-living facility in Huntington, W.Va. She was 97.
Her daughter Lydia Sullivan said the cause was atrial fibrillation, an abnormal heart rhythm.
For more than 40 years, Dr. Sullivan was a tireless champion for educational and other opportunities for people on the autism spectrum. She was a founder of the Autism Society, a national grass-roots organization, and secured state funding to open the West Virginia Autism Training Center at Marshall University.
She started and ran the Autism Services Center, which provides residential, therapeutic and community services, and for several years offered information and referrals by telephone from her home in Huntington, where she and her husband, William, raised seven children.

Facebook... maybe?
I'm looking forward to watching the segment from last night's 60 Minutes. I think I'll crack open a good bottle of wine for the occasion.

I'd put a lot of money down on FB facing no repercussions for this, even if proven true.

The only repercussions would be users voting with their feet, and it simply devolving into more of the MAGA cesspool it is already.

The only things I'm seeing from my MAGA connections are "well, I'm out of Facebook jail..." then nothing for a couple weeks until another declaration that they are out of FB jail. It's been a much more pleasant experience.

Bronco Pro Bowler, Otis Armstrong.
Armstrong spent eight seasons in Denver, was a two-time Pro Bowler and led the NFL in rushing in 1974. He also starred at Purdue University, where he became the school's all-time leading rusher and leader in all-purpose yards. Then he became an all-time Bronco great, with 4,453 rushing yards, 123 receptions for 1,302 receiving yards and 879 yards from kickoff returns.

Did Ray Fosse get a mention here?

I remember him from being the backup catcher to Gene Tenace on the 70's "Swingin' A's" teams.Ray Fosse, the strong-armed catcher whose career was upended when he was bowled over by Pete Rose at the 1970 All-Star Game, died on Wednesday. He was 74.

This. Video ends with, “is this the greatest moment in All-Star history?” Fuck no, it was a stupid, unnecessary dangerous move in an utterly meaningless game.

I didn't realize until reading that obit that he played the next game, two days later!

Re: Worthy of mention, too obscure for own thread
He had quite the career. And from the NYT
Mr. Scolari’s stage work over the years included two Broadway plays in which he portrayed sports figures. In “Magic/Bird” (2012), about the basketball stars Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, he played several characters, including the basketball coaches Pat Riley and Red Auerbach and the team owner Jerry Buss.
Two years later he played the Yankee star Yogi Berra in “Bronx Bombers,” a role that required him to spout Yogi-isms. The critic Charles Isherwood, in The Times, wrote that he “delivers these in a nicely offhand style that manages to keep the zing without turning each verbal pratfall into a cartoon caption.”

I would watch both of those plays, especially the first one.
I was about to say I'd watch the movie versions but they'd probably be TV movies with shitty stunt casting.

This one may only mean something to nonlinear and I. Jerry Schnydman. He was 2 years older than my dad but they were friends. 2x AA in lacrosse (when freshmen were not allowed to play varsity), national lacrosse hall of famer, and really nice man. He worked lacrosse camps I went to and would still blow by college players in drills (often showing off a trick where he would rainbow a lacrosse ball into his stick on a full run, beat his man, and score).

Along with Brian Eno, Mel Ott and any of the Alou brothers.
Mort Sahl was one of those guys who was on a lot of shows when I was a kid and who was bafflingly unfunny. I think that once comics like Carlin hit the scene, his comedy was done.

BALTIMORE Colts RB/League's first "Emergency QB" Tom Matte
Very friendly guy. I had a chance to meet him when I worked for the AHL team in those years when the Ravens first moved to town. He probably did the opening puck drop 5 times that season. Always willing to help out. Guy had 4600+ yards and 45 TD's in his career.

Feliciano was just 45 years young. Was diagnosed in 2013 with a congenital defect that caused a small "hole" in his heart. No word if that contributed to his early demise.

My favorite defense of all-time, the 1988 Philadelphia Eagles, has lost another member, which makes 6 of their starting 11. I know that was 33 years ago, but they still seem so young. Following Jerome Brown, Reggie White, Todd Bell, Andre Waters and Wes Hopkins, RIP to Mike Pitts.
