The key is just to walk away quickly. Even if they are crying. Prolonging the separation makes it worse. My daughter was horrible at drop off. Nobody loved daycare more, but drop off was a nightmare for years. My wife couldn’t walk away while she was crying. Teachers explained we need to run out quick. I did, and it worked. 10 seconds of crying instead of 10 minutes. Drop offs sucked until 5th grade. Used to have to bring her to the Principal to gang out at drop off.

Yeah man, its heartbreaking and goes against every instinct, but you really do have to just walk out on them. Hanging around or coming back only teaches them that more crying will keep you around.

I think we fucked up. On Monday we dropped both and ran but got called back after an hour because both were crying so hard they vomited. So it was a safety issue. We came back and hung out then left. I think that really spooked my wide. Tuesday my wife stayed and it was half a day (that was probably a mistake). Wednesday, she could not drop and run, they knew and held her tight. We all went home. This is why I want to try one without mom tomorrow, drop and run.

Oldest had the prom for her hometown HS (she goes to a county HS) this evening. Tomorrow (and Saturday) are the state group championships (basically semi-finals) for track, so she brought her own dinner (pasta and bread) and she drank nothing but water, passing on waffle fries and Chinese/orange chicken and pizza and Shirley Temples, all among her faves. I just drove down and picked her up at 10 so she could get a solid night’s sleep because the event wasn’t over until 11:30. Driven.

I promised her waffle fries on Saturday.

Sorry degen. I'll echo what everyone else has said. Drop and run and mom shouldn't do it. My wife couldn't handle it. I was a mess in my car for a few minutes once or twice, but I'd bet Jack had stopped crying inside the daycare before I had stopped outside of it. They won't remember it and the smiles when you pick them up are always amazing.

Finals started today for my kids. I was going to comment on how quickly my son has deteriorated after reading Rass' post. All of his classes this semester were AP, so he finished all of his tests several weeks ago. Had prom last week, spent 3 days in a motel at the Shore and has been skipping school almost every day. He claims he is allowed to, as he doesn't have any finals and all his classes ended. The past few weeks they have been watching movies, had a picnic... Amazing how with all this free time, he suddenly forgets to take out the garbage, do his laundry, clean... Rass' post made me realize I need to crack the whip.

With the AP tests, I get that it's the same day for the whole country, but I hadn't realized until this year, that the Northeast kids get a full month less of class time prior to the test. OTOH, judging from my sister's school district, Georgia schools get a fuck ton of vacations.

The adults have no leverage and he knows it. Better not get your ass whooped with your own whip.

I am scared of pre-college summer. Vividly remember using my mothers car then ignoring her calls(?) and making her walk a couple miles home only for my girlfriend and I to hide in the bathroom and get caught while i pretended to shit. Recollection #2... 3am trying to clean out a beer some dumbass spilled in the back seat of moms car cause he passed out. Just smelled like cleaner and beer.

It's been a failure. I sent one girl (Sophia) yesterday and today and she cried most of the time, wanting mom. Today she got sent home early and the provider wants to give up, blaming us and saying she's not ready.

With twins my home is very structured, probably too structured and the girls are used to it. So at this dayhome, it's not like Sophia doesn't like the lady, but if something doesn't go her way, she wants mom, mom can resolve it. I also think the lady is too strict. Yes, there need to be discipline bt it's their first day, does it really matter? They can ease into it.

It's constant crying.

I'm hurt everywhere, I've never seen the girls this sad. They are so scared of us leaving them right now.

I hope so. I'm willing but I think the girl is still crying and the lady wants to give up. A few more days then I'm changing daycares.

Could somebody, like your parents, watch your kids at your house while you leave for the day? Maybe that would be a transition for the kids.

My mom has been coming over quite often since their birth. They could be a few others i could consider testing.

Anyways, we've been fired/discharged. Full refund by the agency. What a joke, lady who can't handle one little girl. We'll now give the girls a one or two month break, do a bit of reassessing and training of our own in the house and defnitely it will be a big daycare next time.

Going to a bigger daycare may be better due to them needing to have structure, which you've said your twins are used to. Those tend to also be a little more like school, so that ends up as a smaller adjustment at that time, as well.

Yeah more activities and more kids their age in a group. I think the girls were just plain bored at this place and there was nothing distracting them from thinking of mom. In fact separating them the last two days was also a big mistake. They need to go together with a bunch of other kids.

Not a total waste this week, lesson learned.

She PR’d and finished 6th overall in the 800 and qualified for the state championships.

She scratched the 1600 today to concentrate on the 4x400 (states are all one day, she couldn’t do 3 events even if she qualified), and a couple of her teammates did the same and skipped the 200 today. They finished 5th overall and also qualified for the finals. Kid ran the anchor and had a leg of 58 and change, another PR.

So bailing early on prom was worth it. And we got one more official HS track meet.

My older daughter, who moved to Boston in January and started working at Wayfair, is having a tough go of it. Not the living in Boston...she loves that, and has made a bunch of friends really quickly, but the working at Wayfair. She got saddled with a terrible manager, who took pretty much took an instant dislike to her, and has been really shitty to her...things like saying "you need to work more independently" and then when she does do something on her own, asking why she didn't clear it with her first. And since her manager is remote, she'll do things like not respond to Slack messages for hours, while my daughter's co-worker, who is sitting right next to her, has ongoing Slack conversations with the manager the whole time. Poor kid has been calling me just shattered, and is so stressed out and anxiety ridden that soemtimes she has to go cry in the gender-neutral bathroom.

She wants to quit, but she got a $5K signing bonus when she started, and she'd have to pay that back if she leaves. The manager has put her on a PIP, which I know is pretty much the fast track to getting terminated, and I'm not sure if she'd be on the hook for that money if she gets fired. So she's going to stick it out, for now, but she's already sending out resumes and looking for something new in Boston (she just signed a lease on her apartment).

I've told her she needs to talk with her second level manager, and give her side of the story, but it seems like getting out of that toxic workplace would be the best thing for her. I've also told her that this is not on her...that if they are putting her on a PIP after only being there for a few months, and its not because she's not showing up and working hard, then that's on them for not setting her up to succeed. I told her last night that she's just starting out, and in a year she'll be telling the story at a happy hour about how she had a horrible boss when she started out. Daughter told me that Wayfair has such a bad reputation in the area that having only a few months there on your resume is not a red flag at all. Just wish I could do more to help her get through this.

In other Boston area news...the GF's daughter Robin is likely moving to the area as well. Her business partner/boyfriend has a job offer in hand from Puma to be a "Creative Director" for running and training products. Requires him to be in the office in Somerville, MA at least 3 days a week. Really great opportunity for him, with a substantial salary. Kinda too good to pass up, but a huge change for Robin. If they do it, they'll be getting a property management company to handle putting her house in Sisters, OR up for long term rental or AirBnb. I think she's mostly freaked out about the huge change in lifestyle...not being able to go back country skiing/gravel riding/trail running right from the house. He has to give his answer today, and as of last night they were leaning towards doing it.

Sucks for your oldest. I'd say, get applications out for jobs in Boston. Seems much easier to apply in person for smaller things that she may not even see if she was back in Seattle.

Yeah, she is. She has an interview this week for a contract position.
Good luck to her! Hope it all works out.

Funny how our kids’s challenges worry us more than our own challenges.

Welp the oldest is no longer a HS senior. She did a very nice job with her speech.

I signed up to chaperone Project Graduation and got 5 more hours or so to go and am regretting it.

Hope you survived. Where was it? Ours was at Branchburg Sports Complex. Not thrilled with a 30 minute bus ride at 3:00 am then kids driving home from the school. Senior parents arent allowed to chaperone, parents of juniors volunteer.

Woodbridge Community Center. No bus, all drop-off/pick-up was on location.

I'm very sleepy. Kids (and they are still very much kids) seemed to have a good time.
