Confession time: Way back around '99-2000, I used to listen to his radio show when I'd be out walking my dog. Of course, I never agreed with him about anything, but back then I liked to check in on what the other side was thinking. He was a die-hard conservative/Republican, of course, but back then he wasn't a lunatic like Rush or Hannity. Guess he figured out that being a reasonable conservative wasn't going to pay the bills.

Just voted at a County early voting center. I’ve always voted on Election Day in my town (or absentee from my parents address). It was a lot of people in a relatively small space, but they kept it moving. No wait for a sign in person and a booth opened right as I finished signing in. Wave of emotion hit me as I pressed the Harris button. Mostly for the fuck you to the other guy. The Dems for Senate and House were also a fuck you to Trump.

Legalizing abortion in the state constitution is on the ballot here and I don't think I can overstate how good it felt for LA to go vote in favor of it when we voted last Friday.

This story, about the chaos, back stabbing, and infighting inside the Trump campaign, is astonishing, but wholly predictable.

Inside the Ruthless, Restless Final Days of Trump’s Campaign
At the end of June, in the afterglow of a debate performance that would ultimately prompt President Joe Biden to end his campaign for reelection, Donald Trump startled his aides by announcing that he’d come up with a new nickname for his opponent.

“The guy’s a retard. He’s retarded. I think that’s what I’ll start calling him,” Trump declared aboard his campaign plane, en route to a rally that evening, according to three people who heard him make the remarks: “Retarded Joe Biden.”

The staffers present—and, within hours, others who’d heard about the epithet secondhand—pleaded with Trump not to say this publicly. They warned him that it would antagonize the moderate voters who’d been breaking in their direction, while engendering sympathy for a politician who, at that moment, was the subject of widespread ridicule. As Trump demurred, musing that he might debut the nickname at that night’s event, his staffers puzzled over the timing. Biden was on the ropes. Polls showed Trump jumping out to the biggest lead he’d enjoyed in any of his three campaigns for the presidency. Everything was going right for the Republican Party and its nominee. Why would he jeopardize that for the sake of slinging a juvenile insult? (A campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, said the nickname “was never discussed and this is materially false.”)

Over the next several days—as Trump’s aides held their breath, convinced he would debut this latest slur at any moment—they came to realize something about Trump: He was restless, unhappy, and, yes, tired of winning. For the previous 20 months, he’d been hemmed in by a campaign built on the principles of restraint and competence. The former president’s ugliest impulses were regularly curbed by his top advisers; his most obnoxious allies and most outlandish ideas were sidelined. These guardrails had produced a professional campaign—a campaign that was headed for victory. But now, like a predator toying with its wounded catch, Trump had become bored. It reminded some allies of his havoc-making decisions in the White House. Trump never had much use for calm and quiet. He didn’t appreciate normalcy. Above all, he couldn’t stand being babysat.
Of all the losers, grifters, and psychopaths in the Trump extended universe, the one I am most excited about never having to hear from again (dear God willing) is this scumbag, Steven Cheung:

He's the shithead campaign spokesman who made a bunch of claims about the staffer at Arlington National Cemetery.
After NPR first reported the altercation last week, campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said they were “prepared to release footage” of the incident, and attacked the Arlington employee as someone “clearly suffering from a mental health episode.” Cheung also said they were granted access to have a photographer present, and pointed to a statement from Gold Star family members that invited Trump to attend the ceremony.
He also made this laughable claim about Trumps "lets make it a music" event.
“Total lovefest at the PA townhall! Everyone was so excited they were fainting so @realDonaldTrump turned to music,” campaign spokesman Steven Cheung wrote on X. “Nobody wanted to leave and wanted to hear more songs from the famous DJT Spotify playlist!”
He also used to work for Dana White/UFC, so not surprising that he's a lying piece of shit.

I wish Kamala’s TV ads pounded Trump more, especially on project 2025 and Jan 6. The ads for Trump seem more effective than the Dem ads.

As with all the swing states, really depends on where you are driving. Head out to the suburbs, where I was last weekend and it's 9-1 Harris signs over Trump signs.

Yup.
Here’s the thing - and I don’t want to get my hopes up that Iowa is actually in play - but if ever a state made sense to finally reject Trump’s bullshit it’s Iowa. It’s a fairly educated state and a lot more urban than most people would think so hopefully this is the canary in the coal mine.

Also worth noting that Selzer polled 2020 and 2016 correctly in Iowa.

I think this is the first commercial for this cycle that I couldn’t help but cheer a little, maybe because it took so long to be obvious as a political ad and maybe I’m lit (on the ACC network while Pitt is currently getting trounced by SMU).

I think (hope) there’s a strategy saving these for a specific voting bloc. It’s an undeniably effective ad and maybe the argument is airing those for a month before the election dulls the effectiveness.

the Selzer final poll from Iowa a real earthquake moment. We can talk after Tuesday night about what a shit show polling has been this year and what I think has been happening, but...not yet.

In any event, calling my shot.

She will win.

the underestimation of how angry women are post-Dobbs by the political DC press and the usual polling suspects is hilarious in hindsight. Shoutout nonlinear.
