This may need to go in the Confessions thread, but I have friends posting on FB about Burning Man, and how "life changing" it is, but I'm sorry....it looks like the worst version of Hell that I can imagine.

My default position is that anyone who thinks Burning Man is awesome probably sucks.

No desire to go either, but I think its interesting as a microcosm of humanity. What once started as something pretty egalitarian and (for lack of a better term) authentic has slowly shifted to the more corrupt, divisive, and artificial as it's gotten bigger and more popular.

(My main beef is that I'm not going to spend my precious PTO around the same fuckwads that I have to suffer in my liberal bubble, but if someone said "here's a week off, free tickets, and an RV" it would be a no-brainer.)

On the bright side, Kaepernick now has the #1 best selling jersey of any player in the NFL. It's good to see that he has that level of popular support after the initial reaction from many league executives and insider media types was that he'd be permanently shunned. Honestly, I think the absurd overreaction from league insiders and right wing media types did as much to fuel support for Kaepernick (and Rapinoe, Jeremy Lane, etc.) as anything he said.

Doc can also add an extra skidmark next to everyone's favorite forced anger peroxide blonde Tomi Lahrens. What a vile bitch.

I keep sharing this as much as I can on Facebook to people reacting to her. Tomi Lahren is a phony. Deadspin linked this but not overly. Here she is just two short years ago moderating a panel about tuition increases at UNLV. She looks like your average journalism student. So she's running the Fox News Playbook to get people pissed off. I wish someone with a large audience would play this every time she's shared.

Broadcasters of Paralympic swim races where armless swimmers win gold should try their best to avoid the phrase "so-and-so grabbed their first medal of these games".

The amount of conservatives creaming themselves because retired Admiral William McRaven gave his opinion on the sitting during the National Anthem stuff is staggering.

While I acknowledge the historical perspective he took in his commentary, it still doesn't fucking matter. You can scream into the wind tunnel hoping for change and progress, but you'll be met instantly with those in positions of power ignoring you. But the second you find a way to make people listen by way of, what should be, an innocuous stance, you get attention.

And that's the point. There isn't outrage from the masses in changing the establishment, but rather outrage that you don't fall in line with it unilaterally.

Am I right in thinking there's an implicit agreement that if a stoplight is out due to a power outage, you should treat it as a four-way stop? It seems like half of people get this and the other half are like "Fuck you, no light means I don't have to stop, ever."

Huge pet peeve of mine. If it's totally dark yes it is a 4 way stop. But often times it is flashin yellow for main road and flashing red for cross streets. But then people on main road will still stop and fuck shit up for others.

How? If you have flashing yellow hat is proceed with caution. Flashing red means stop til you can proceed safely.

Edit: obviously you have to slow down when on the main road, but you don't stop for a flashing yellow ever.

I think Carwash was talking about a scenario where the light is completely out. As in a power outage. So no flashing anything. In that scenario should absolutely be considered a four way stop.

I'm pretty sure it's not just an implicit agreement, but it's the actual law and stuff.

We get lots of phone calls to our land line from people claiming to be taking surveys/opinions/polls. With the elections coming up, its frequency has picked up. I don't want to participate in these things, and of course, sometimes they aren't really surveys or polls, but rather thinly veiled sales calls or attempts to persuade your vote.

My solution to this offends my wife. I downloaded the "Fart Cushion" app to my cell phone. So, when they start blathering, I start farting at them, rapid fire.

My approach on the surveys is to answer the questions in ways that break their software won't handle. For Yes/No questions I go "sometimes" or "it depends" Then when they push for a answer the fits the model I stick on my original answer. Then they tell me that I have to pick and I explain that it is a shame that my thoughts and views can not be pigeonholed into their low grade software/process/survey. Sometimes they hang up, sometimes they keep trying.

I feel a little bad for the minimum wage employee who is calling me, but figure they picked this gig.

Last night a DC United rep called me 15 minutes before the DC United home game kicked off. Nice lady, dated a lacrosse player from my university for a bit. Still figure she had something to do on a game day besides work the group sales calling list.
