For some reason I thought he had already passed. While it wasn't a great show, my 10-year-old self loved Head of the Class.

Same. We tried watching an episode with the kids. They were so bored.

Howard Hesseman (for his role as Dr. Johnny Fever) deserves his own thread. That character was iconic, and was part of the zeitgeist that helped push rock music into mainstream society.

Oh, and Bailey was hotter than Jennifer.

Kind of mind-blowing to hear "Dogs" on a sitcom.

Copyright issues plagued WKRP even in syndication (forget streaming). They replaced all the music with session musician filler in syndication, but man it made you wonder if it was even worth watching.

I mean, Les Nessman putting on a toupee to Hot Blooded?

Breeders Cup Winner Alphabet Soup

A sweet, short obituary.

I was at the Breeders that year - it was at Woodbine in Toronto. Cigar must have gone off at 3/5. An all-time upset.

Wrong Giambi.

As an aside...I found it weird that in most of the stories about Gerald Williams they really played up how he was great friends with Jeter.

I saw a Twitter thread where someone posted an interview with Giambi where he said he fucked up and would have been safe if he slid. Same thread also had people arguing over whether it was Jason or Jeremy. My takeaway was only a Yankees fan would make a death announcement of another player about the time Jeter made a play to get him out. I hated Yankee fans of that era so much. Although moving to Boston during that era made me hate Red Sox fans even more. Yeah, we know you hate the Yankees, but an art museum isn't the place to start chanting "Yankees Suck."

Everyone always acts like it was the winning run in the 9th inning of the series clincher and not a baserunning out made by a team wholly committed to losing by any means necessary in the playoffs.

PJ O'Rourke

His comedic essays didn't do much for me, but he was partially responsible for National Lampoon's High School Yearbook and Sunday Newspaper Parodies which are among the funniest things ever put in print.

And just looked at IMDB - he wrote "Easy Money" (with Rodney Dangerfield). Damn funny.

I knew the JHU connection. Wondered if he crossed paths with my dad there (as my Dad read his books). But a closer review makes me think no.
