I didn't necessarily agree with his politics, but the man was very witty and could turn a phrase.
When I was a youngster in college and had a subscription to National Lampoon, my buddy and I thought that John Hughes and P.J. O'Rourke were the two funniest writers on the planet.

A little lazy on the obit…the “university” in Ohio is Miami. I usually bitch about people saying Miami-Ohio but they couldn’t be bothered to even name the school.

The school should petition the IANA to release a top-level domain of .OH, so that they can claim miami.oh (they’re currently miamioh.edu).

Curious if DiS is the same, but my first thought goes back to KEXP's morning DJ who always takes these hard and is already dealing with the death of his sister a week or two ago.

Nice man. Had a chance to meet him when I was working a resource table at an Independent League game in Southern MD. He was honored pre-game and was walking on the concourse and stopped at my table so he could sit down on one of my chairs. We talked for a few minutes about what the org I work for does in MD.pruitt2 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 8:17 am Hall of Famer Charley Taylor

That’s one of those songs where classic rock stations almost exclusively play the live version. And it sounds weird when they don’t.

RIP Sally Kellerman. The original Hotlips Houlihan, in the movie version of MASH. It’s possible a youthful sancarlos emailed his brother with her in mind.

That dude was a great bit.
My oldest recently binged New Girl and I really enjoyed half remembering that show through her. Hard being a responsible dad and trying to explain Nick Miller was your spirit animal for a couple of years there.

Fun fact: The grandmother is one of two celebrities my wife has come slightly too close to hitting with her car in the past decade. Both times she claims not her fault.

Those revival episodes were unwatchable. My wife loved Gilmore Girls, and I like it. We tried to watch, I think we watched 1 and half episodes. I can't fathom how they made it so bad.

I didn't know anything about the original until the rewatches here but ... wasn't that pretty hard to watch too? Between the wholesome-ness and the "everyone is always clever" conversations, it wore me out.

Re: Worthy of mention, too obscure for own thread
I didn't hate the GG revivals, but also hadn't watched the series since it ended and had definite gaps in my knowledge of who was who and what had happened so maybe I didn't get bugged by some things that I should have.
The youngest has started watching Dawson's Creek (she picked up a Pacey crush watching The Might Ducks movies) and she was making fun of the way Dawson talks and I stopped myself from talking about how that show (and GG or Buffy) were considered almost revolutionary "back in the day" (ugh) for both how they portrayed teenagers and for the way the characters spoke (the heightened sarcasm and vocabulary level) and how that style of conversation has since become so commonplace that Marvel superheroes and even fucking Star Wars characters talk like that but stopped myself and mumbled "yeah he uses big words" or something.

It's good in small doses, probably couldn't binge it, as they are a lot. We watched years ago when my wife recorded syndicated episodes, so I never watched it all the way through, more sporadic episodes. In a weird way, the grandmother reminds me a ton of my MiL. Replace the cold-distant wealthy proper society behavior with a cold distance brought on by extreme neurotic Jewish behavior. Really hard to explain, because they are so different, but only every scene with the grandmother led to me and my wife exchanging a knowing glance. Particularly the scenes where she henpecks and controls the grandfather.

My wife was so into the Gilmore Girls when it first ran.
Like nails on a chalkboard for me.
Then years later my daughter became obsessed with it and binged it a few times.
The nails only got longer and the chalkboard became drier.

David Boggs, Co-Inventor of Ethernet, Dies at 71
Before becoming the dominant networking protocol, Ethernet was challenged by several other technologies. In the early 1980s, Mr. Metcalfe said, when Mr. Boggs took the stage at a California computing conference, at the San Jose Convention Center, to discuss the future of networking, a rival technologist questioned the mathematical theory behind Ethernet, telling Mr. Boggs that it would never work with large numbers of machines.
His response was unequivocal. “Seems Ethernet does not work in theory,” he said, “only in practice.”

I really liked the show the first few seasons. Then Rory turned into a jerk, they brought in Logan, and they had to manufacture a breakup with Luke, and I had to skip a couple of seasons.
We watched the revivals, and it was fun in the "just like old times" sense, but I don't know how anyone could watch the revivals if they weren't already committed to the show. Rory is such a terrible, selfish, uncaring person in the revivals.

Yeah, I never watched the original run, and started watching with the wife a few months back... It's annoying AF. I get why it was popular, but I also don't feel it's worth the effort.
The Melissa McCarthy character is just super annoying.
