This is fanfuckingtastic. I'm only around 350 or so.

Lucero dropped a new live album today (Live in Memphis, TN) recorded for a livestream during lockdown with a lot of deep tracks on it. It's awesome but not quite the same without 1,000 drunk people belting out the lyrics at the same time.

Is it the Nobody's Darling live?

As many Lucero shows as I've seen (10? 11?) almost half of these songs I've never heard live in person and they basically never play the same setlist twice.

ETA: A couple others like Bikeriders and And We Fell I haven't heard in at least a decade.

Talking to myself again probably (and maybe AB and Giff), but I wanted to note I'm really enjoying the new James McMurtry. The guy is a really good lyricist.

It's really good. Canola Fields is running for song of the year.

I haven't listened to that yet. I need to. I like his stuff.

"Choctaw Bingo" shows up in my shuffles from time to time and even though it's 9 minutes long I like it.

The Cooley/Patterson/Isbell live album from Muscle Shoals in 2014 (a one-off fundraising concert) is out on Spotify I just realized.

Still the first and only time they've played a full show together since Isbell left the band.

sancarlos wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 11:32 am Are any of you guys familiar with Billy Strings? I just recently found out that the nephew of one of my best friends plays banjo in his band. Funny thing, this guy (his name is Bill Failing (unfortunate last name)) was a musical prodigy as a kid - went to Berklee Music Institute with banjo as his primary instrument.

Sad/poignant thing - My friend's wife died of cancer two weeks ago - she was the same age I am. Bill Failing was on tour out here with Billy Strings and stopped by their home to see her and play for her in her backyard. She died the next day. My friend teared up telling me about it.

Just listened to a bunch of their songs on Youtube, they are fantastic!

We'll never know, but it's probably inarguable the country would at least be marginally better if Hinckley had managed to kill Reagan.

Probably only matter to a few(hey SC, BSF and Giff!), but Hayes Carll's new album is pretty strong.

I can't remember the name of the first single, but I think I was asleep halfway through it. I liked the second one much more.

It's...fine? It's definitely worth listening to and I'll come back to a few of the songs. Hard to top Lost In The Dream to be fair. I like it though. Can't imagine anyone who likes TWOD somehow not liking it.

Lost in the Dream - A+
A Deeper Understanding - A-
Slave Ambient - B+

Not sure on the new one yet.

I don't enjoy Victim at all.

I like I Don't Live Here Anymore musically but some of the lyrics are dumb.

War on Drugs verdict: Its fine. They don't click for me in the same way Wilco doesn't click for me. Its not like they're bad or anything and I wouldn't turn them off, I just don't really notice when they're on and if I do I get that lame-to-say "everything kinda sounds the same to me" feeling.

It certainly isn't what I'd recommend someone start with.

I actually really liked Slave Ambient, but I never liked them more later even if their next album was objectively better (I assume).

She’s a Yankees fan so seriously it’s more likely something related to that.

Yeah. I’m not anti-Yankee, but I might’ve said something snarky that she reacted to. Hell, Giff almost blocked me for retweeting something snarky about the Astros.
