Same here. Plus has an Alison Pill sighting, who's my under-the-radar actress crush.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Nice. Fill in the time between Mad Max and The Road Warrior. With George Miller, w/o an old-assed Mel Gibson. And the car better survive.

Until I saw George Miller's involvement, I had assumed this was a remake/reboot. So it has actual continuity with the originals?

I haven't seen the original movies aside from Beyond Thunderdome, and that was at least a quarter-century ago. Have been meaning to catch up but they're not streaming on Netflix and I'm too lazy to send for the DVDs.

Mad Max is pretty good, a bit melodramatic. Road Warrior is simply the perfect action movie--my favorite action movie evah. Both much better films than Thunderdome (although the first 1/2 of Thunderdome is fucking awesome--then it bogs down. "Who run Bartertown?")

I was coming here to post almost the exact same thing. Mad Max is actually a little slow, especially compared to The Road Warrior. You don't need to see them in order. I watched The Road Warrior many times and long before I watched Mad Max.

You need to find a way to watch The Road Warrior.

I haven't watched it in years, but I loved Johnny Dangerously as a kid. And he was very funny in Toy Story 3, too.
Michael Keaton is fantastic. I think I hate you.
Hey Michael Keaton Appreciation Society!

It looks like he has a showcase role (meta dark comedy with a cast full of good actors) in a movie this fall, in full-on "let's get nuts" mode.

Going to see it is evening. Taking my wife, so I'll be able to fully judge it's crossover appeal. She's never seen any of the Marvel movies (excluding scenes where Thor has his shirt off).

Does Nebula get a fair amount of screen time? I never see her in any trailers.

She's second in command to the primary bad guy. I mean, if you're going just for your Amy Pond fix and have absolutely no interest otherwise in this sort of movie, you might be disappointed, I guess.

So it's rumored there is going to be a reboot of Ghostbusters where all the Ghostbusters are female. Early Vegas odds on Melissa McCarthy not being involved are 572,000-1.

Also, here is a nice theory on the biggest plot hole in LOTR:

New Left Behind trailer. My favorite is when the daughter says that the god her mother taught her about would never do something like this. How did her mother get raptured having never even opened a bible?

Funny, I just finished watching the Trilogy last night with my family. My kids love it, so I've seen it a zillion times.

I never really thought about the idea of the eagles delivering the ring. I think that "plot hole" ignores the idea that if the eagles just flew on in, they'd have to deal with all of the Nazgul, the full Mordor army and the full attention of Sauron. By the time they actually came in the movie (and books), the Witch King, the leader and most powerful of the Nazgul, was dead. (Remember, that guy had the power to break Gandalf's staff and surely would have killed him if Rohan's army hadn't shown up to distract him.) Also half or more of the Mordor army was dead, along with all of Saruman's forces. Additionally, if they had come directly on eagles, Sauron would have had his full focus on the giant birds and I have to think he'd have some power to stop them.

That said, I do think it might have been a decent idea to leave at least one or two guards at the doorway into Mt Doom. You know, just in case. He did know that a hobbit had the ring and that a hobbit had been captured in Mordor. I assume he knew the hobbit had escaped, but maybe the orcs had lied to him and said he was dead (or perhaps they honestly thought he was dead).

Finally saw it on the weekend and absolutely loved it. Start to finish, it was as enjoyable a movie as I've seen in a couple of years, and Ralph Fiennes is fantastic in the movie - in fact, most of the cast is just great.

City of God is an amazing movie.

Just watched the documentary about background singers 20 Feet From Stardom winner of best Documentary at the Academy Awards last year.

It has some good music, but is really quite lame. Uninvolving and the attempts to tie the stories of these background singers into some sort of bigger picture reflection on society as a whole was really quite laughable.

Echoing the praise for City of God. That's a fantastic movie, and it drives me nuts that it's largely unknown outside of movie-buff circles, while so much love was heaped on Slumdog Millionaire, which tried to be more or less the same thing but was really contrived and cloying,
