pretty sure i've noted this before but he's a good trivia (VERY trivial) answer to "who was the guitar player who subbed in for an ill Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple's heyday" - would never in a million years have guessed him.

Fun fact: Jay Ferguson did the theme to The Office.
Just heard this fact on the radio (missed it here/forgot about it, sorry SC).
And he was in Scrantonicity!
Anyway Thunder Island is the best.
Thunder Island is definitely a masterpiece.

Sorry for another bump, but AS A YACHT ROCKER this shitty ass cold weather has me missing summer.
I knew the guy from Player was on a soap opera but didn’t know his character’s name.
He was with the band the one time I saw them on a revue-style YR show. Must have been in his mid-60s then, still looked like a rock/soap opera star.

Well, we've all seen him with the double neck Fender Strat, while wearing an Earl Campbell jersey...He is a singer/songwriter as Christopher Cross. He has a backing band, but they're not in the band "Christopher Cross." The writer messed up, IMO.

Well, he is now!
The article says he changed his name shortly after the first album blew up, which I didn't know, and wiki seems to back up that he was born "Chris Geppart". Assuming you aren't disputing all of that, then I think I agree that maybe the tense of the twitter synopsis was off and could have been something like:
"In a very personal way for front man Chris Geppert, the song WAS about escaping tumult, like the trauma of his childhood."
Otherwise, I think the actual article handled it appropriately. And the twitter blurb did get me to click, so...

As Rass knows, I did in fact walk right by C² as he was singing Arthur's Theme. I believe I was sipping on a wine from the Greece booth and had just finished a chicken kebab from Morocco. Pretty magical! Then...

Hard to believe that a random person who was 17 months old at that time is now 43.
I think so yeah. They’ve obviously put in the work to be YR gatekeepers even if I don’t always agree with all of their takes.
And if anything is going to distract you from finishing SwampVenture I hope it’s you getting super into Yacht Rock and taking up that life style. You should at least treat yourself to some smoooooth on your birthday. Have a good one.

Thanks!
And you're right, that did send me into a (semi-)deep dive on yacht rock:
I'm going through Spotify's official playlist list and making my own curated copy that excludes the songs I don't consider YR (or don't like).
I know I've taken a fewshots at Michael McDonald here in the past, but I've come around. My main objections were 1) I liked the early Doobie Brothers and didn't like how they force-fit their sound to him when he came aboard and 2) He had this run in the 90s/00s where he was seemingly doing a bunch of covers of other people's songs. But accepting him when he's in his YR wheelhouse, I am pro-Mike McD.
Bobby Caldwell just broke Rick Astley's record for "White Guy I Most Assumed Was Black When I First Heard Him."

Yacht Rock is gone from channels available in the car. Welcome October by listening to the Billy Joel channel?
A couple of quick notes now that the season is over:
Most unfortunate/inappropriate additions to the rotation this summer:
2. Fleetwood Mac (they've played Dreams in past years but really went all-in this summer)
1. Pre-Michael McDonald Doobies
Song that I felt like I heard every time I turned on the channel:
Moonlight Feels Right - Starbuck
I'm digging hte Billy Joel channel. Got an offer for $5/month for sirius in the truck, so had to do that. Almost all billy joel, y'allternative and comedy

There's a documentary on Paramount Plus called "Sometimes When We Touch" about the soft rock/yacht rock revival. Pretty decent way to kill 2.5 hours.

Enjoy it for another two days because it usually goes away at the end of the month (and will come back in a few months).

What is “y’allternative?”

A little more rock than that generally, but a lot of the same roots. Played a lot of Isbell, drive by truckers, kacy musgraves, lainey wilson (whom I've developed a crush on due to yellowstone) as well as Robert Earl Keen, Billy strings, American Aquarium, Vandoliers (right up giff's alley!) with some other stuff I hadn't heard much of. Alt Country/Americana a decent description.

I think Billy Joel is gone gone but it looks like Y'allternative might still be on the app (and available via streaming devices).

Hmm. So not on 55? that's showing up as Red White and Booze, which is middling and has a lot of songs I just change the channel for. A man can only take so much Toby Keith that isn't early stuff.
I'll look around the streaming app to see what's what.
EDIT: Yeah, it's there. Tyler Childers playing now, who is another great one on that channel.

The couple of times I've listened, No Shoes Radio seems to be a similar mix, crossed a bit with Margaritaville (so heavier on the good-time drinking songs).

I just hate how much Kenny Chesney shows up. I'm pretty sure it's his station, but still. It is a good chill out mix usually.

I was enjoying Y’allternative on my car radio, but it went away on Tuesday.
