Those maps are hilarious.

In terms of perception from the rest of Canada, Toronto is New York City and L.A. combined. The traditional financial and cultural hub. And when you live in a place like Edmonton there is tremendous jealousy of a city that people actually want to be in.

Only those who've never visited Montreal hate it. But in Canada, "Montreal" is often synonymous with "French Canada"

Kind of a tie - but the best known place in Manitoba is Winnipeg where 60% of the people live. And Winnipeg is known for ridiculously cold winters and mosquito infestations and the occasional flood.

I only spent a couple of hours there when I was a teenager, so who am I to judge? But I have never met anyone other than a Winippegger who has anything good to say about the place.

OTTAWA — Fees paid by the federal government for third-party consultants have continued to increase, with costs expected to be $1.3 billion higher this year compared with an earlier estimate just two months ago.
According to a government estimate released in March, the annual cost of outsourcing engineering, legal and other services would reach $16.4 billion in 2022, up from $8.3 billion in 2016. An updated document released on Thursday adds another $1.3 billion to that estimate, bringing the 2022 projection to around $17.7 billion.

Last week, Conservative MP Candice Bergen asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau why scientists at the Winnipeg infectious-diseases laboratory had been collaborating with Chinese military scientists. Two Canadian scientists have been fired from the lab, so Ms. Bergen’s question was reasonable. Mr. Trudeau’s response was not.

“The rise in anti-Asian racism we have been seeing over the past number of months should be of concern to everyone,” Mr. Trudeau replied, from left field. “I would recommend that the members of the Conservative Party, in their zeal to make personal attacks, not start to push too far into intolerance toward Canadians of diverse origins.”

It is interesting (and maybe coincidental) that the Liberals in Nova Scotia had a massive lead in the polling when the campaign started. Could the Federal election call have pissed off a lot of voters?

Unless this O'Toole fella messes up and serenades the cranks, I can see a Liberal minority at the end of this.

However, that is a big if.

The Conservatives here actually ran to the left of the Liberals on a bunch of issues. Once they kicked off the campaign by promising a fuckton of money into healthcare, they had all of rural NS in the bag. Where as the liberals kicked off the campaign by vaguely disclosing their new leader’s two DUIs and removing a popular candidate for past (tame) sexy photos. All that plus a healthy dose of vote splitting with NDP and here we are.

While I’m pretty bummed out about PCs with a majority (they smartly never talked about their “huge tax and regulation cuts for corporations” platform), at least we’re a long way from a Doug Ford or Jason Kenny style conservative government.

Federally, I think with some low turnout NS goes from Liberal sweep or near sweep the last two times to an even split.

Been there a couple of times - once as a young teenager and then three years ago for lunch. We were on our way to Trout Point Lodge and had no idea of the horrors that awaited us on the Nova Scotia roads.

ETA: Not monsters or anything like that - the roads themselves are horrifying.

It all comes down to how many three-way races can the Conservatives win in the federal election? In Nova Scotia, 55 provincial ridings turn into 11 federal ones. Maybe all the rural ridings get combined into one.

Last federal election Liberals won 10 of the 11 ridings.
